I promise this blog will not become The Happy Housewife’s pregnancy drama, but since many of you follow me on Twitter, you know that these past few weeks have been crazy with the pregnancy.
Yesterday, I had another doctor’s appointment and my blood pressure was lower and all my tests came back normal. She told me I could resume normal activity (some moderation) and I left the office quite happy. I spent yesterday afternoon catching up on things and making the Star Wars cake.
Today I had an ultrasound to check the baby’s size. Unfortunately, the baby is smaller than she should be, which is probably due to my fluctuating blood pressure. Since she is small I need to go back on bed rest to keep my blood pressure low and hopefully help the baby to get a bigger before she makes her arrival. I am now going twice a week for non stress tests as well as blood pressure checks, along with my regularly scheduled weekly appointment. Does anyone else think it is funny that when you have high blood pressure, they run a million tests on you and make you go to the doctor several times a week? I mean lots of blood tests and hospital visits have never lowered my blood pressure before!
In order to keep me compliant (how boring is bed rest?) my mom is flying up on Sunday to help with the kids and the house, while dh keeps his day job and does some traveling for work. My mom is no stranger to this job as three years ago she lived with us for three months while dh was in Iraq and I needed back surgery. The kids are super excited that grandma is coming up and are already planning fun activities.
My mom commented on the phone today that maybe with my bed rest I will get caught up with the blog and emails, so if you have emailed me over the past month, I might actually have time to respond!
As for now, I am sincerely thankful to all of you who have emailed, commented and sent tweets regarding the pregnancy and the baby. Please keep praying that our little one will “fatten up” and stay in place for a little while longer. We did confirm today that she is definitely a “she” so we are trying to finalize her name and finish washing all the pink blankets, sheets and gowns. They are just so tiny and adorable. I can’t believe we will actually have a little person to fill them in several weeks!

Good luck! I had to do the twice a week non-stress testing plus lots of testing because of high blood pressure during my first pregnancy. It’s a total pain, but the extra ultrasounds are a nice benefit, lol.
Thinking of you during my (thankfully) normal pregnancy!

I’m sorry they put you back on bed rest, but it will be worth it if it helps keep her safe! I hope you won’t be too bored!

I’ll be sure to keep you and the baby in my prayers.
Those little teeny, tiny baby clothes are adorable aren’t they – I remember not realizing how big my older children were until a new baby came along. All of a sudden my two-year old looked so HUGE!

Hang in there, Toni! Praying for you!

I’m sorry that you’re stuck on bedrest.
I hope your little one fattens up before delivery. I’m sure she will. Just try not to stress out and relax as much as possible. How great of your mom to come help! Hopefully that will help you tremendously and you can just rest these last few weeks. I’m sure everything will be just fine. I know you’ll have a lot of people praying for you!
God bless,
Amanda

I love the personal blog posts like this one! Wow-Bed rest?!? I can’t imagine that with the 2 I’ve got, let alone in your house! Thank God you have your mother to help!

Sounds like I may need to give twitter another try…
I am so excited for your new little girlie to be born. I love pink! I will pray for her to be a healthy babe!

I didn’t have size issues. 8 lb 6 oz and 9 lb 3 oz but they never did anything about my high blood pressure. Just sort of shrugged and went on about it. At least you are having help. That will be a blessing.

I will be praying for all of you.
Aren’t Moms great! My mom would (and has) done the same thing.

So sorry to hear you are back on bedrest.
I was on bedrest with our third for 9 weeks. I’ll be praying for you as I know how hard it can be!
P.S Your mom is so sweet!

Hope all is well… and thank goodness for moms that can come bail out us military wives. We try to do it all and then things like this happen and you just have to let someone else help take care of you
try to enjoy your R&R

Thank goodness for moms, mine would do the same thing. I’ll keep you and your baby in my thoughts.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re on bedrest! Those ultrasounds are notoriously wrong when it comes to estimating weight, so I’m sure your little one will be just fine. I had GD w/my last pregnancy and dreaded the barrage of tests and Dr’s visits as well.
I hope you don’t mind I passed on your name to Adrienne at Mom Central. It looks like a fun opportunity. Maybe you won’t be able to participate next week, but perhaps later on in the year for another event.

Awe, sorry to hear about the bed rest. I’m praying for you guys. I’m sure it’s not nearly so challenging with all the entertainers and helpers you have there
It’ll be real nice to have your Mom there though
Enjoy!! That little one will be here before yo know it

I was on bed rest with high blood pressure when I was pregnant with Alice. It was a horrible few days (I was already 39 weeks so they scheduled inducement for when the maternity ward cleared out a little since my doc came out of surgery to send me home). Needless to say those few days were torture. I hope your bed rest goes over better than mine did.

Congrats on the “She” and bless your mommy for coming to take care of you!

Praise God your mom is coming to help! PRaying for the baby to grow and be healthy! I’m also praying for you through the rest of the pregnancy.

I’ve also done the bedrest thing with 4 of my kiddos. They officially diagnosed me with intra-uterine growth retardation, meaning the babies weren’t gaining weight like they should have. I also had the blood pressure issues too. And the several times a week appointments…yuck.
BTW, I concur with the other poster–the docs were all wrong about my babies weights and they ended up being about 3 pounds heavier than the docs said. My 4th child– they told me she was going to be 3 pounds right before I had her. She was 7 pounds and 4 ounces!
I am glad that you can get some help. I’ll be praying for you and your little one.

I hope your bed rest isn’t too boring. It will be worth it. and it is good that you have blogging to keep you occupied.

Oh no, bed rest. That has to be hard to do with so many children to take care of. I was really sick with this last pregnancy and pretty much was on self induced bed rest. I’d love another baby, but I don’t think i could put my body or family through that again. It was really bad.
I hope your bed rest doesn’t last too long and if it does, at least you know you’re doing what is best for your baby. And maybe you can actually relax a little in these last weeks!
For what its worth, this last baby of ours was our smallest, but he is totally healthy and normal. Just felt like being small, I guess. lol

I’ve been enjoying your blog and just wanted to say hi! I’m a homeschool mom of 7 with #8 due April 25th, so I think we’re maybe due around the same time! I’m sorry you’re on bed rest

Good luck with the baby & keeping your sanity while on bedrest. Try hulu.com for episodes of tv shows you can watch for free on your PC….they even have some movies. I think they guess the weight. My first was susposed to be near 9lbs & she was 7lb 4oz…my second they said would be bigger even though there is an 8 year gap & she came in a week over due at 6lb 15oz. Its all in Gods hand so I’ll pray for you and your family….Good luck.
