Cora meets her Grandpa

I am extremely excited to announce that I am partnering with BornFree, makers of BPA free bottles, at BlogHer this week. As you know, I was given some BornFree bottles last month for Cora to try and I loved them. I was using Dr. Brown’s, but after a few weeks of using BornFree I decided that I prefered the BornFree bottles for several reasons.
My plan was to phase out the Dr. Brown’s and increase my supply of BornFree bottles. Cora had other plans! One day, while we were on vacation, Cora decided she didn’t like the Dr. Brown’s anymore, so she just stopped taking them. It took a few hours for my husband and I to realize that she really was hungry, she just didn’t want that bottle. We poured her formula in the BornFree bottle and she drank it up in a few minutes. Since that day she refuses any bottle other than her BornFree bottles.

This recent development made the fact that I am partnering with BornFree at BlogHer 09 even more exciting. I can’t wait to introduce other blogging moms to this great company and hand out some cool BornFree products.
If you are not familiar with BornFree bottles here is an excerpt from their website:
BornFree™ has developed a range of products baby bottles, cups and accessories that is totally free of the potentially dangerous chemicals Bisphenol-A (BPA), Phthalates and PVC.
BPA is a known estrogen mimicker that is used in the production of polycarbonate plastic.
According to researchers, BPA may cause developmental and neurological problems if it leaches from plastic. Reports suggest that small amounts of BPA may leach into food or beverages stored in polycarbonate containers, especially when the contents are heated. In addition, BornFree™’s cups and bottles feature the unique BornFree™ venting system, designed to reduce colic and ear infections.
Since Cora has switched to BornFree exclusively, she seems to be more content and her tummy bubbles have decreased too. I love that BornFree is concerned about harmful chemicals in baby and toddler products. BornFree even has a line of glass bottles, which if there weren’t 3 boys living in my home, I would get some for Cora.
For those of you who are attending the BlogHer 09 conference this week in Chicago, I would love to give you some BornFree swag for your little one. If you would like to check out BornFree’s line of BPA free bottles, sippys, teethers, and other accessories follow me on Twitter. Throughout the conference I will send out a tweet when I am available to meet, talk BPA free baby, and pass out the swag. Feel free to leave a comment with your Twitter name so I can follow you back.
I can’t wait to meet everyone at BlogHer. And for those of you who have asked, Cora will not be attending BlogHer this year. Her dad, big sisters and brothers would miss her terribly if I took her away for that long. Plus after traveling for ten days and then moving Cora needs to get back on a routine. Wait, she never had a routine…. that is why she gets to stay home with Daddy and her BornFree bottles while I go to Chicago.

Seriously though, I will miss my family terribly, if you are like me, your time away from the kids usually involves birthing another one. I am looking forward to learning more about blogging and how to make this blog better.
See you in Chicago!

Have fun at the confrence, it sounds like a blast!
By the way, until I read your blog I was beginning to think that I was the only homeschooling mom to ever use formula. I have gotten some seriously strange looks at homeschool group when I pulled out a bottle to feed my baby
Also, my husband fixed the babies bottle this morning and it leaked all over him (for like the tenth time) so apparently we will be ditching Avent and coming over to the Born Free side
Hope your time away is refreshing!!!!

Do you live near Atlanta? The park you are at looks like one we have in Alpharetta called Wills Park. I live at the Chattahoochee River right off of Roswell Rd and would love to meet you someday. Email me at brysonwg@aol.com if you do live here. Thanks!

Oh, I didn’t know the BlogHer conference was in Chicago (that’s where I live)!
Chicago is AWESOME, and right now it’s not even too hot.
Oh, I’m just so excited that you’re going to be in Chicago – I admire you so much – even though my life is very unsimilar to yours (living with partner, partner’s in school, I work full-time, no children, just a cat, we try not to move too often). I don’t even know what to tell you to see – I love the Harold Washington Library, the conservatory is beautiful, the art museum has real Monets (quite a shock to me coming from a small town in Virginia), and there’s festivals galore all summer long.
Welcome!

No little babies anymore at my house (my baby just turned 4 last month!), but I will be at BlogHer for the first time and would love to meet you in person. I’m on twitter @uppervalleymom.
See you in Chicago! Now back to laundry…

I sometimes wonder if I’m the only one whose baby didn’t like the Born Free bottles. I heard so many great things about them and they were the first ones we tried but my dd never would take them. She was a 29 week preemie that I had to wean early because of pregnancy complications with my son and we bought just about every bottle out there. Dr. Browns was the only one she would take. Not sure what was so different about that one but it was a relief to find one that worked. I gave my Born Free bottles to a friend that does infant foster care so at least they will get some use.
Have fun at the conference.

Just as a general comment–it seems a little odd to me that with so many kids and with you blogging about saving money, that you would choose formula…you just don’t seem to fit the profile for formula use, which to me should only be used if medically necessary or if the mother has no maternity leave available…(I believe breastmilk, like clothes and shelter, is a child’s right). I’m not expecting an answer, I just thougt it was odd…

VeggieMomma-
I did not choose formula, I did not produce any milk after Cora was born, because of medical issues.

I wish you were going! Maybe we can meet up next year!

Oh for heavens sake…that comment about formula really irked me. Why are some people so judgmental?

I obviously have no experience with bottles, but I did notice that a friend of mine that I babysit for uses them. Actually I am surprised that you are bottle feeding Cora.

ignore the last comment…my bad.

Love the picture of Cora and Grandpa.

I was not being judgemental, only curious. I plainly stated that formula should be used for medical reasons, which is the case. I just knew that this might confuse people with a money saving type blog that’s all. Formula is great for people with medical issues! Children can live healthier when otherwise they would not (they used to use ‘pap’ or even sweetened condensed milk in these cases which is very unhealthy–now we have formula). Sorry if I came accross in any other way.

No problem, I do realize people might see a disconnect in frugal blogging and bottle feeding. Even breastfeeding moms can use a bottle w/ breast milk if they need to be away from their child for a longer period of time. I agree, I am thankful people are not using sweetened condensed milk anymore!
