Not Nesting, Just Spring Cleaning

Yesterday on Twitter, Carrie asked me if I was nesting or just cleaning. I am not nesting yet, but our house had a case of the winter blahs and it was time for some serious deep cleaning. We cleaned out the garage (which I didn’t get pictures of) as well as the master bedroom, pantry, laundry room, and just about anything else that wasn’t tied down.

First I went through two boxes that had been sitting on the top shelf of my pantry since I moved in, in June!

Now I have more free space at the top of my pantry for food storage.

I then organized the bins that sit on top of the school cubbies. They were a mess and needed some serious organization.

I cleaned them out and organized them.

I found many items I thought were missing and now using our flash cards will be so much easier since they are all in one spot.

One of my friends came over and helped me organized my apparently gigantic fabric stash, as well has other odds and ends in my bedroom. It is time to make room for the baby. Since Christmas and my sew-cation my room has been a pit of disaster. I had to walk over fabric, sewing machines, needles (ouch), and a large variety of other items to get to bed. I forgot to take any before pictures, but I do have a during picture.

It looks so good now that it is clean. I don’t want to ever go in there again, so it stays that way :) .

I finally got a new bedspread. Now I just have to make some shams… hmmm, sounds like another tutorial.

Finally I attacked the laundry room. This is another area that has been a mess since we moved in. I used the shelves to store stuff I didn’t want to unpack or organize when we first moved in.

It looks so clean, I hope I will be inspired to keep up with the laundry now.

It is interesting, many of these jobs I put off doing because they seemed overwhelming. Aside from my bedroom, most of these jobs only took a few minutes. I can’t believe I have lived with these thorns in my side for several months and in a weekend I was able to eliminate most of them.

If there are jobs that seem overwhelming to you ask a friend for help. My friend helped me to sort and purge my fabric and find a system that works. Had she not come over and been a little extra motivation for me, I would probably still be sleeping in a disaster zone.

What a great friend. This is where my pride would kick in. I still have that problem. I don’t want someone to come in and help me clean. How embarrasing. That is what my heart says, when i know it’s just my pride.

Great job! It always feels SOOOooo much better when you get “those” areas cleaned up, but still we fight it! I am starting on March (NEXT WEEK!!! eeek!!!), doing one room at a time and totally cleanin’ up! I pray that God grants me the energy and the motivation to get it done!!!

Did you do all of that in one day?? That’s pretty darn good. I consider doing a load of laundry, cooking dinner and picking up toys/books to be spring cleaning!

It all looks great, and what a nice friend! We have so much stuff in storage from moving that I go up there and sort. Lets just say we used to have 5 storage units and now we have 1 large and 1 small one. It’s progress. Oh, and we still have tons of stuff to sell or whatever in our old house. Fun! Maybe by next year! LOL I’m usually good at organizing for a day and then I’m over it!

It looks great! I really need the motivation to do that. It has just been so cold and so much has been going on that I haven’t felt like it.

You really went to it! Great job! I am in the process of doing my office and the basement. I can’t finish my office until I clean the basement because I need to store stuff from the “new office” in the basement! And there is no room. LOL It’s a never ending cycle.

wow.. I would of never thought to ask a friend. I have fibro and it is very hard to keep up with my house. I like how you used the phrase.. ” winter blah” I guess thats what my house has too. I have trouble keeping it clean for some reason. I have a lot of work to put in this house like painting and keeping the masterbedroom organized. This has inspired me.. maybe I will do a little this week and put pictures up on my own website.. I love your website by the way!
