Menu Plan Week of September 15th
September 14, 2008 |
I am entering into uncharted territory this week. Due to the busyness of our schedule, my husband is trying to temporarily relieve me of some of my household duties. One of the “chores” he is taking over is the grocery shopping. My husband rarely goes to the store. When he does it is usually to pick up the emergency gallon of milk, plus twenty other things not on the list. He promises me he will stick to the list like glue, and keep us under budget. I am still debating on whether or not to send him with coupons.

Shepherd’s Pie
Ingredients
2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
Garlic powder
1 can cream of potato soup
1 small bag frozen corn
Mashed potatoes (enough to cover a 9 x 13 pan)
Grated Cheese (cheddar, colby, jack… your choice)
Brown turkey on stove top, add onions during the last 3 minutes of cooking, I also season with some garlic powder. Mix turkey and onions with the cream soup. Spray a 9 x 13 pan with nonstick, then spread the turkey mixture in the bottom of the pan. Then layer the corn on top of the turkey, finally spread the mashed potatoes on top of the corn. Bake covered for about 25 minutes @ 350 degrees. During the last 5 minutes of cooking uncover the casserole and sprinkle with grated cheese.

Hopefully your husband will do well. My husband doesn’t do too badly with coupons. I am making bagels this week also. Your recipe looks great!

I love shepherd’s pie and that sounds like an easy version!
And your salisbury steak looks good but it’s missing mushrooms.
I love them so much I add them to almost anything and certainly would add them to that.

My husband does well with coupons but the cheese department (you know, the expensive one) derails him completely. Who knew there were so many kinds of sheep’s milk cheese in the world?

Gosh,
Are coupons those paper thingies? I sure hope I don’t mix them up with cash or …. maybe …. a CREDIT CARD… The horror! Make sure you give me step by step instructions. I never shopped before you saved me from my life of squalor and famine:)
And to think, the nation trusts me to defend her…

LOL… my hubby and I just had a discussion about him grocery shopping today. I THINK he could handle it… he is pretty good about not buying things on impulse.. unless it is for the Harley! lol

Good luck with the husband shopping. Mine would get everything I asked for, but he never looks at the prices, so he would definitely go over budget, and I would get 10 phone calls asking what things were. Menu looks great!

We have both scheduled Shepherds Pie and Chicken pot pie for our menus this week without even knowing! Great minds think alike! How’s the shiner?

My husband used to do the grocery shopping before we both got too busy and resorted to having our groceries delivered. He was actually much better at it than I was.

Yikes! I’d be nervous, too. LOL! We love chicken pot pie and had some a couple weeks ago. I’ll have to try the shepherd’s pie soon. Good way to use up some leftover taters.

I’m not a big fan of coupons because we tend to eat alot of fresh veggies and fruit. Once in awhile I’ll use one for cleaning supplies or coffee.
I tend to look for the markdowns at my local Fresh and Easy store.
You have a terrific week.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Very kind of you!
FirstHusband does our grocery shopping on the way home from work. It takes less time to shop when kids aren’t sneaking stuff into the basket. (It also takes less money.) I never make him a list, he just calls me on the cell a few times. He’s got the hang of it now. Buys the correct brands and everything!

Great recipes. I think a might try a couple of them this week. Thanks for all the great tips.

WELLLLL, I was going to say if your husband is anything like my husband he’ll come home with all kinds of weird fancy expensive stuff and lots of Cadbury candy bars… but then I remembered my husband has changed, now he shops everyday for the meat, fish, or whatever he wants for dinner that night. We don’t freeze meat… we grill it fresh. I’m sure your husband will do just fine… you’ve trained him well. It just took me a little longer.

I do hope U will blog about how the coupons go!
The Salisbury steak recipe sounds great!

HAH! I see the TM by your title. That’s new, isn’t it? Smart thinking after that whole Unhappy Housewife bit. (or whatever that other blog was called) I’ll bet that was enough flattery for you.

Ooooh, all those comfort foods…sounds like a yummy week!

I was wondering if you provide snacks for your children between meals, or are their tummies satisfied with what you have listed. I have four little boys (ages 7, 5, 3, 1) and they seem to be hungry constantly. I feed them complete, wholesome meals three times a day with a light nutritious snack between meals. Our youngest has mulitple food allergies, so we have to purchase special flours and such for him - he basically eats fruits and vegetables (expensive). Our food budget has significantly increased due to increased appetites and food allergies. Any suggestions? (We are a military family - CONUS)
