Menu Plan

July 13, 2008 · 10 comments

After months of living with day to day breakfast plans I have made a decision to change the way my family does breakfast. Our normal routine (in the summer) is that I sleep while the kids whine around my bed for breakfast. I tell them what I am making and then they go downstairs and wait for me to feed them. I realized the other day that this is ridiculous. I have two kids that are capable of making any breakfast, and one that is capable of making a few breakfast items. So this week I will be assigning breakfasts to my children. I will start off slow so I don’t shock them at first. I put the meal assignments in parenthesis.

Click on the links for more recipes.

Breakfast

Monday- Cereal / Eggs ( 8 yo son)

Tuesday- French Toast

Wednesday- Pancakes (oldest dd)

Thursday - Oatmeal (11 yo son)

Friday- Cinnamon Rolls This is the Hillbilly Housewife’s recipe, I substitute a whole wheat master mix for bisquick to make these a tad healthier. They are delicious!

Lunch

Sandwiches, muffins, smoothies, leftovers, cut up fruit and veggies

I am so excited because I already have most of my dinner ingredients in my kitchen. My shopping trip next week should easily be under $100. I am doing well this month on my budget, I have only spent $337 out of my $700. My big trip will be next week before my husband’s huge 40th birthday bash. Can you believe I am married to such an old man? :)

Dinner

Monday- Homemade Pizza I am thinking about trying this on the grill, has anyone had success with this one?

Tuesday- Chicken Tetrazinni, salad, whole wheat bread

Wednesday- Grilled Cheese, fresh fruit and veggies

Thursday- Mexican Chicken Skillet This is a new recipe I am trying from the cookbook

Friday- Chicken Legs on the grill, salad, broccoli, roasted potatoes

That is a great idea with breakfast. My 7y o does the same thing… comes to wake me up with “Mom, I’m hungry”.

I have never gotten brave enough to try pizza on the grill. For all the time it takes to heat ours up, pizza seems like a waste of energy – I’d rather grill a hunk o’ meat. ;)

We have done pizza on the grill. It works, for sure, but if you have crust snobs they might not like the sort-of-black grill marks on the bottom.

Thanks for posting your menu. It looks great. I am going to be trying your chicken tetrazzini recipe. And let us know how the pizza on the grill turns out. I want to try it that way as well.

I have done pizza on the grill and we love it! Oil the grill while it is still cool (just wipe an oiled paper towel across the grates). Roll out your crust and cook one side, the put toppings on the cooked side and return to grill to cook the bottom of crust while the cheeses melt. Yum!

We did pizza on the grill a few weeks ago. I posted on it with pictures and all. Our family loved it, so give it a try. Just click on my recipes category and it should be there….if not let me know.

The chicken tetrazinni sounds delicious! I’ll have to try it when I return from vacation. I have my dinner menu for this week listed on my blog along with a recipe for my mom’s Chili Con Carnie.
