I Need A Makeover….

I Need A Makeover....

Here is the deal…

About a year ago, my husband and I heard about a guy named Dave Ramsey. Last summer, I checked out all of his books from the library and read them… quickly! Soon I begged asked my husband to read the books too. He did, and on August 1, 2007, we began our journey to freedom. Using Dave’s principles, mixed with a few others, and some good old common sense we were able to pay off $11,000 in student loans in 3 months. On October 26, 2007, we called his radio show and screamed, “We’re debt free!” It was awesome, and now I want you to have the chance to scream “We’re debt free!” just like we did.

My giveaway is your choice of books, either

  1. I NEED the “Total Money Makeover” and the right words to get my husband to read it with me. Can you send those too if I win??

    Thanks - great giveaway!

    Sandy

  2. Please count me in, Toni. I’m in debt up to my eyeballs!

  3. Your contest badge is posted on my site. :)

  4. I need these books and I need my husband read to them! I have been trying to get the debt paid down! So yes choose me choose me!

  5. We really need these. I have two children and we have NO $$$ for college. I drive a 13 year old car with no working AC and only two of the four windows roll down (makes the summer REAL fun if you know what I mean). We need ways of saving $$$ for the things we need and for our kids.

  6. I need these because I’m trying hard to support a husband through law school and failing miserably. For some reason I always break and buy that cute pair of heels :(

  7. My husband and I need one of Dave’s books because our son has already read it, gotten himself about 75% out of debt (and quickly working on the rest) and is gloating about it! We need to know what he knows…!!!!

  8. who doesn’t need helping with finances?! i love to have this book. in fact, maybe i need to see a financial counselor too.

  9. I was just looking into getting the Total Money Makeover. A friend reccommended it. We are trying to get out of the debt we are in and learn to live debt free. So pick me.

  10. We just listened to one of his videos that I found at a thrift store. It was very motivating! Congratulations on your debt freeness!!

We loved the video, but the video only showed a small part of his program. We’d love to have the book to explain to us how we also can be debt free!

    Thanks for offering this giveaway!

  11. I would like to get The Money Makeover book. My frugal tip would be to plan meals in a way that will allow you to save money by using bulk items. For example, large packages of mushrooms are cheaper at Costco than purchasing small packages. By planning meals such as beef burgundy one night, make stuffed mushrooms for lunch, and makin a chicken casserol another evening, I can use them before the spoil, while saving money at the same time.

  12. I’ve been wanting to get these books to read, but I can’t afford them (ironic huh?). I’d love to win one of these!

  13. We are moving to Florida in August and want to live debt free, as well as run the ministry God has given us without any debt!! So we could really gleen a lot from these books. Thanks for entering me!! I don’t have a blog, but you can check us out on the web at http://www.buildingtruthministries.com

  14. We do live frugally but I still wouldn’t mind reading The Total Money Makeover to put everything into perspective. I try to be frugal with my meal planning and my husband and I are content to have date nights “in.”

  15. I would love either of these books. We are first time homeowners and would love to have the mortgage as our only debt!

  16. I need the Total Money Makeover book! My husband and I have decided it’s time to get rid of debt and I’d love a plan on how to do it!

  17. We went jobless for several months and just made a big move for a new job. Now we need to pay off the debt from that experience.

  18. We just bought a home, and I would love to read about getting out of debt! I’ve heard a lot about Dave Ramsey and would love to learn more. Great giveaway! Thanks for offering!

  20. I’ve heard so much about him. i’d love to see what he has to say.

  21. We are moving from 2 incomes to 1 soon and really need these books.

  22. We’re trying to make it on one income and pay off debt too.
It is tempting for me to go back to work , as I can make good $ as an RN. I think these books would bless our family and help keep me at home where I belong!

  23. We have more debt that you did and are really trying to get it paid off. I’m tired of it hanging over our heads.

  24. we’re a young family who’s made a few mistakes along the way so we could totally use a money makeover!
    :)

  25. I have been married for 16 years now and instead of things getting easier financially it seems to be getting tougher. I stopped working as a RN in September (after adding our 5th child to the home) and now we are living on one income. It is VERY tough at times….BUT the rewards of being home with my children are fantastic…something you can’t buy. I need to learn how NOT to be anxious and instead have a plan of attack. Financial Peace sounds like a great place to start.
    Thanks : )

  26. I’d love the Total Money Makeover. My fiance’ has a pretty significant amount of debt, and is not a book reader, so I could read it and help coach him through fixing his finances. I’d love to win! Thank you for the chance =)

  27. Thank you for the chance to win. I love your blog, it is in my google reader! :) After hearing all the great stuff about Dave Ramsey I ordered The Total Money Makeover just last week and am waiting for it to come in the mail. I would love to win “Financial Peace” to go along with it!

    mindysaid (at) gmail (dot) com

  28. We need this help so badly — no money, huge debts, and DH’s poor health scares me! I need to get out of debt to protect my family and free us from this enormous and constant strain and worry.

  29. Love Dave! This is the 3rd or 4th give a way I’ve entered for his books. I need his books because I have not read them yet but I love his financial planning ideas (I listen to his pod cast and used to subscribe to his site). Thanks!

  30. I am an avoider. We are doing ok right now, and I am working on getting better at dealing with our finances, but it’s scary to start. I have heard SO many good things about Dave Ramsey, and even if I don’t win I plan to take the plunge and invest in his work.

  31. I just finished reading the Total Money Makeover, but that’s the book I would like? Why you ask? Well, since we’re in baby step #1 and trying to save $1000 fast (which is not going to be easy for us) I can’t afford to buy a copy and give it to my sister. I KNOW she needs this book!

  32. I have both of these books - I just need the inspiration to actually START living like no one else, so later we can live like no one else. I’ve known about Dave for several years, and it really is a shame that the husband and I haven’t started yet.

    What a great giveaway!

  33. My husband and I are hoping to work at becoming debt free this year and it would be great to have a book to guide us in this process as we are now doing it by the seat of our pants! :-)
Please enter me in your giveaway.

    Blessings,
    Tammy ~@~

  34. This would be great for me because I would love to be a sahm or at least cut back working to part time. i think these books could help me do this!!!

  35. My DH and I are always looking at new ways to enhance our finances. This is the first time we’ve been in debt since we just bought a house, and it’s a little bit intimidating.

    Jennifer

  36. I just checked Financial Peace out of the library this weekend! I’d love to have Total Money Makeover. DH and I are struggling with budgeting…I want to have one and he doesn’t! I’d love to find a financial strategy that we can agree on.

  37. We are trying to get out of debt & I have been dying to read these books.

  38. I need Total Money Makeover because we are just starting out and want to make sure we make good financial decisions!! Thanks!

  39. Oh, boy, DO I need these books. My DH is a 2nd year surgery resident, and during his medical school years we racked up a ton of credit card debt. When our son was born, I stopped teaching to stay home with him - but we’re now in a situation where we’re making minimum payments only, and starting to wonder if I will *sniff, sob* need to go back to work next school year to make ends meet. I want nothing MORE than to be debt free, and staying at home with my little boy!!!

  40. would love to read either of these! My main reason? Well, I think that the cashiers at Wal-Mart would recommend my winning only because they now anticipate my “OHMYGOSH” face each time they ring up my purchases…..I can’t believe the price of food nowadays - basics! like milk and cheese! egads!

  41. We don’t need the books because we have them and are working the plan also. We are in week 7 of FPU and have read both of the books before! I am trying everything to be frugal and save money. We are now keeping up with our debt snowball and are amazed how quickly it turns over. Goodness!! I just wanted to say Hello and I am so happy for your family! I can not wait until we can yell also. My kids are counting down the days with us! Have a great week!

  42. i have never read ramsay’s books although i hear he’s excellent, and i’m always looking for ways to save

  43. My husband and I have been married for 11 years and still don’t have a financial plan. I don’t think we spend excessively but I realized the wisdom in knowing where your money is going. Thank you.

  44. We could use this because we have to raise our own support for the field. Therefore we have very little money to spend. Lets stretch that dollar!

  45. I need the Total Money Makeover! I’ve heard alot about this book and think it would help get me and hubby out of debt.

  46. We could really use The Total Money Makeover. We’re a family of eight and have recently gotten in over our heads a bit with debt. It’s frustrating, but we want to break free.

  47. My husband and I are struggling financially due to lots of debt we have incurred over the years. We are a one income family now, and we can’t afford to pay all the debts. I have heard that Dave Ramsey is a good source of how to get on track. We would sure put The Total Money Makeover to good use.

  48. I am not commenting to enter the contest. I just wanted to say GOOD FOR YOU! We are on our journey to financial peace. The books are awesome and lifechanging! Great giveaway! May God bless you for wanting to bless someone else!

    Blessings!
    Mrs. Q

  49. i’m afraid i have nothing new to say. we’re the typical story of a young famliy, with a mortgage, car payment (just 1), school loans and credit card debt. all of which we need to get out from under. we’re working on it, but i really think we could benefit from these books. it would make our life better…but most importantly it would make our children’s lives better.

  50. Oooh! I don’t want to let anyone know all the bank charges that I’ve payed over the years.

Trying to raise five children on a teacher and freelancer’s salary can be tough.

  51. I want to pay off my house note - now!

  52. I have heard great things about this book. My Dh is a pastor and I know this book would come in handy (not only for us) but for counseling premarital couples or couples that need help financially please sign me up!

  53. I have been wanting to sit down and go over our finances and make a plan and have been hearing lots of great things about doing finances the Dave Ramsey way.

  54. Right now we need a Total Money Makeover because we have a hard time budgeting and saving money. Everytime we feel like we’re doing well, we have a backslide. After saving up a few thousand dollars and no longer living paycheck to paycheck, my fiance went nuts and bought a bunch of computer crap since we “could afford it.” In the past week we’ve dropped almost a grand on new car tires, an alignment for the tires, gasoline (that keeps getting more expensive but df has to fill up twice a week for the work commute)… anyway… so much for being able to afford the computer. Now we have NO money again because of the unexpected expenses!

At least we’re not as bad off as his parents who lost their home, still owe us a ton of money they borrowed last year, and go gambling all the time and then try to borrow more money from us. I think they need the book more than we do!

  55. I so need the Total Money Makeover!! Three weeks ago, I was completely broke. I had to drain my account just to pay rent. I didn’t even have enough money to buy groceries for my son. It’s very depressing knowing you don’t have anything at all. I need this book in order to become debt free and to learn to manage my money.

  56. We are debt free(except our house) and would like to stay that way.

  57. Congrat’s on being able to sell.. WE’RE DEBT FREE!!! FREEDOM!!!!

I love listening to him on Friday just for that reason. Most of the times I’m crying on my side because I’m so happy for everyone who can yell that.

Thankfully my husband and I have been debt free since we have been married except for the house and our goal is to get that paid of in a couple years. ($130k in 9 yrs with all but 3 of those years us being one income and not the highest income at that either)

  58. I’m a firm believer of being debt free makes us “free”. I have not read Ramsey’s book yet and would love to. I hoep I can win - please enter me in. Thanks.

  59. I think we could use either. We aren’t bad with money, but the economy is scaring me enough to think that reading these would be a great idea!

  60. What a great giveaway - you’d be helping one person to be financially aware and possibly debt free like you! I need this book because my husband and I had been reading all of Robert Kiyosaki’s book and would want to be educated more!

  61. The only debt we have is our mortgage (AND we’re living on ONE teacher income with 3 children) BUT I sure would like to see our mortgage disappear quicker and I would like to save more for the inevitables… please enter us for Financial Peace Revisited.

  62. We need this because of the HUGE amount of student debt we have and just all of the incidentals that come with having lots of kids.

  63. I would LOVE to be debt free. This book would help me to get that jump start in the right direction.
This is a great giveaway!!! I can’t wait to see if I won!! :))

  64. I am a stay at home mom of 4 young boys and am in the process of adopting a daughter. Talk about needing debt relief! Your blog is a blessing to me. THANK YOU!!!!!

  65. GREAT giveaway!

We really need these books. We want to get out of debt and be able to retire at a decent age.

Thanks and have a lovely day!

  66. I’ve heard a lot of Dave Ramsey, but never read the book Total Money Makeover. We need this book because we want to implement his principles!

  67. I’d love the Financial Peace Revisited book! I read TMM last year and loved it, but couldn’t get Hubby to read it or really listen to me about it. We are working on getting out of debt slowly (just paid off our only credit card!) and want to get our student loans and a loan from family paid off asap. I think if I could get him on board with Dave Ramsey’s suggestions that we could get stuff paid off so much quicker.

  68. With a second child on the way we really need to get a budget in gear. I have heard so much about Dave Ramsey and want to get started soon.

  69. I would love to read one of these books! We are currently working on paying off our debts

  70. I listen to Dave’s radio program every day. I would love to be out of debt someday

  71. I’ve always felt like we were decent at budgeting, but 4 years after having our first kid, I feel like we’re not saving enough, and I would like to work less and be with the kids more. . .SO this could be an amazing resource for us at this time.

  72. I am a single mom of 2 kiddos and 1 bulldog. A few years ago when I got divorced I said no more; but apparently I have a HUGE problem with saying NO! I would love to have an opportunity to win one of these books and change my families life for the better. I love your website - I read it daily for inspiration and great ideass Thank you!

  73. We could sure use this. I have 32,000 worth of college loans, car loans, credit cards, four mouths to feed and only one income. I’ve been working really hard to get our finances in order, being frugal at the grocery store but it always seem like we run out of money! we could surely use one of the books!

  74. I need Financial Peace because I’ve read the other one, loved it, and want to know more of what Dave has to say!

  75. Can I, can I? We’re not directly related although our husbands may be by now! I’d take whichever one you recommend.

We need this book because my husband is thinking of changing careers. I think he is serious this time. That means we’d actually settle down and need to buy a house. I also requested an adoption packet from an agency. Hmmm.

  76. I could really use the Money Makeover. We are trying to make some changes during difficult times. Thanks for the giveaway!

  77. I just got hit with a $3000 dentist bill and need some guidance on how to fit this new debt into an already tight budget!

  78. I would love the Total Money Makeover. We had to open a charge card just to cover my hubby’s root canal, now if its’ not paid off by July, it’s like almost 30% interest tacked on from the initial charge!! We hope to be debt free before then. As soon as we almost had our emergency fund, by hubby lost his job.

  79. We are walking on eggshells right now. Everything is so tight, it’s easy to break those eggshells and fall through. We have the dreaded “commision” as our main income. We could really use some extra help!

  80. My husband and I are trying to find a way for me to be a stay at home mom for our newborn. I think these books could help.

  81. We could really use this book. We have had the year from hell. My husband was diagnosed with cancer and was out of work for six months. While he was on sick leave his union were dumb f@#*&s and agreed to a 40% wage cut, and dropping of medical coverage to just about nothing, the cheapest plan that the carrier has. (Almost had a stroke when get got a bill for $8,000 for just one of the drugs for one chemo treatment that he had after the insurance change over, it still isn’t paid off yet)

We are a single family income and have two small daughters. We don’t have family able to help out with childcare, and the cost of daycare is expensive. I am a stay at home mom because of the fact that I’d be left with $60 a week after day care cost were taken out of my paycheck. Not worth working 40 hours a week for just an extra $60.

  82. Thanks for having a giveaway. Our church just had a Financial Peace University seminars - but the 13 week commitment was too long for us. We are in the process of adopting a child and would love to have advice on how to save for this.

  83. While debt free except for a mortgage we are trying to save more since we have two cars that will need to be replaced in the next year or two and are also looking at moving to a bigger house. And ideally, we’d like to be paying cash for the cars.

  84. Oops, forgot to mention the book.Total Money Makeover looks good.

  85. My husband and I have been wanting to read this (Total Money Makeover) for a long time! Recently, we had a frugal flop to share one car… and then our only car went out too! AHHH!

  86. This is a big turning point in our life–almost as big as our marriage! My husband is graduating from college and accepting a full time job. Investing, saving, getting out of debt, looking toward the future, life insurance, wills, all that stuff are really important right now–and we don’t have a clue what we’re doing! We could use a book!

  87. Thanks for a great giveaway! I hope i’m the lucky winner :)
i’m in debt up to my eyeballs! Im a clutter hog and because i’m so unorganized i find myself buying the same things over and over and buying organzational supplies to organize the things i keep buying over and over — argh

Thanks for leaving a comment!
