Persistent Friends

I have a friend who will not read this because she does not use the internet and rarely checks her email, but I am thankful for her in spite of this fact! In December she challenged me to read more, and not just fun novels, but books that actually impact your life.

Not being one to shy away from a challenge I created some book goals for 2009. I finished my first book last week. Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God Persistent Friends is a great book that is short and easy to read. In the book Noel Piper profiles several women who lived incredible lives. Many were missionaries, and all lived their lives devoted to God. This book is encouraging and inspiring. I was very challenged to reconsider my life, and how I live it after reading this book.

I am thankful for this friend because not only did she push me to start reading good books again, every time she sees me she asks what I am reading and if I like/dislike it. I love friends who challenge me to grow instead of sympathizing with stagnation.

What type of friend are you?

I have homeschooled as well. Mine are grown and gone now, colleges are NYU, Cornell, Oxford.
I just thought you might like to know, I can teach personal finance over the web.

Alternatively you can get some free books from USAA. We were Military as well. Money series from USAA is a great starting place.

Teaching a young child even fourth grade and up the many levels of the math of finance is tremendously important.

My oldest was one year through college when she stated. “Mom it is easy for folks to spend your money when you don’t even realize it” ” We all go to dinner together when we study, I order something like a baked potato and water to save money, others will order a full meal, soup to nuts then they want to split the check in half.” “It took me 6mo to speak up”

I have one of these friends too… thank God! I don’t know what I would do without her!

Thanks for the book recommendation… I am adding it to my list!

  3. Sounds like a great friend. I have a friend just like the one you mentioned. She doesn’t do the computer or blog, but she gives me good books to read. I am reading a book on prayer right now. Also, I tried to get your picture up, and apparently, it didn’t work. Thanks for posting on Tackle it Tuesday. You are featured. You are so pretty. You should have a pic. on this page.

Linda is getting ready to do a book study on this at church. I downloaded the book from Desiring God’s site. Gotta love that they offer so many of their books to us for nothing!

I know I could grow in being the type of friend that challenges others more…thanks for the challenge! ;)

What a blessing your friend is to you. One of my new years resolutions is to read more. I’ve read a couple of Noel Piper’s books. They are really good. One that I really enjoyed is her one on traditions. Have a wonderful day.
