Attending the HEAV (Home Educators of Virginia) convention is one of the highlights of my homeschooling year. This will be my fourth year attending and I am more excited than ever! The exhibit hall is huge, the speakers are excellent, and the used curriculum sale is one way I save (and make) money every year.

Once again HEAV is offering free admission to the 2010 convention for qualifying parents of preschoolers. If you are thinking about homeschooling, interesting in homeschooling, or planning on homeschooling this is a great opportunity to attend one of the biggest conventions in the US for free!

To qualify for free registration:

- your eldest child must be under five years of age (his or her fifth birthday must be after June 30, 2010), and
- this must be your first HEAV convention.

You must register to attend, but your registration fee is waved.

This year’s keynote speaker, Mike Farris from HSLDA and Ken Ham from Answers in Genesis. I heard Ken speak a few years ago and it was amazing! I can’t wait to hear him again.

Answers in Genesis along with Buddy Davis are heading up the kid’s program, so I am sure it will be wonderful experience for your children if you plan on bringing them along.

The convention dates are June 10-12th, and you don’t need to live in Virginia to attend. You can find more convention information on the HEAV website. I would love to meet up with any of you, if you are attending the convention. Send me an email and we can discuss details. See you in June!

Wow, if only I didn’t live in MO. I love AiG, and their stuff is amazing. Our church is doing their Egypt VBS this summer. I’m so excited. It’s our first time using AiG curriculum.

Do you ever get to see Susan Wise Bauer at these conventions? I so admire her and love her books. I seem to remember she lives in VA…

    • TheHappyHousewife says:

Yes, Susan has been a speaker at the HEAV convention several times. Not sure if she is speaking this year though.

You’re a fellow Virginian? I didn’t realize that. We won’t be going to the convention this year, though. :( (This will be only the second or third year I’ve missed since about 1992!)

Lauren, the purpose of inviting parents of preschoolers to attend is not so that they will do a bunch of academics with their preschoolers, but so that they will know what they need to know – now – to make a decision about their children’s schooling before they reach school age.
