I love children’s books. I tend to gravitate towards books that were written 50 years ago because I feel like many of the books written today are lacking. One exception to my “old book” rule is any book by Laura Numeroff. My kids love her books! In fact I just brought one home from the library last week. We have several of her books on our shelves and they are well worn. My son especially loves If You Give a Moose a Muffin, I think we have read it over 100 times.
I was excited to learn that Laura is coming to Maryland next week. My kids and I will be listening to her read her latest Jellybeans book and hopefully get a photo or two. This event is open to everyone and I am sure it will be loads of fun.
Laura is helping to promote a new program that encourages parents to read to their kids before bed. I know that some of my favorite memories growing up were bedtime stories, read to me by my parents. Even as an adult my favorite thing to do before bed is curl up with a good book.
Reading to your kids before bed (or anytime) is a great way to encourage a love of reading.

We have so many favorites, but one we love love love is Jenny and the Cat Club by Esther Averill. It is a chapter book and is so charming!
We love her books too! Lately we have been ready Goodnight Moon a lot. It gets dragged all over the house.
My favorite children’s books are The Little House on the Prarie books or for little bitties, all of Eric Carle’s books.
It’s tough to pick a favorite, but right now we love the Berenstein Bear books!
Oh there are so many…. but I love Frog and Toad and Frog and Toad are Friends and Bread and Jam for Frances (that whole series)

I like Blueberries for Sal too! But I love the Dr. Seuss books and if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be Harold and the Purple Crayon.
I love the Little House books!
We have so many favorites and love all of her books. Tumble Bumble is probbly at the top of the list.
We love to read and have lots of favorites. Right now I guess our favorite is the Berenstain Bears Love their Neighbors. It is a cute story and we’ve read and read and read it this week!
LOL Another favorite that gets read alot is Llama Llama Red Pajama.
We love Judy Sierra’s “Wild about Books” and “Mind your Manners, BB Wolf”. Her stuff is really cute and funny.
Oh my goodness!! I am SO EXCITED!! I live in Ellicott City and one of my daughter’s favorite books is “If you give a pig a pancake”…I will definitely be there, I hope to see you!!
It is so hard to pick a favorite! As a former first grade teacher and a current mom who reads to her daughter many, many times a day, I just have too many books that I love. I am going to pick one that no other commenter has chosen… Thank You, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco. Really, I love all of her books. Thundercake is also great.
I adore children’s books! My favorite right now is “Why Kings and Queens don’t Wear Crowns.” It is based on the true story of the Norwegian prince, written by his granddaughter HRH Princess Mette Marit! Fabulous story!
Sandra Boynton is popular at my house right now. MY favorite will always be The Berenstein Bears.

The Bear Snores On is a current favorite. Also my daughter is currently enjoying the Fancy Nancy series.
I have too many books that I love to choose a favorite, but one that I love is ‘If you give a cat a cupcake’ – another of Laura’s stories, incidentally!

I grew up loving the Berenstein Bears and now my son loves them too. Millions of Cats is also a favorite around here.
The Story of Ping, Make Way for Duckings, Curious George…How could I choose just one?!
I LOVE the Story of Ping, that is another one of my favorites!
It is hard to choose a favorite but right now at our house we keep reading: One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish.
My favorite series as a child was the Boxcar Children, My favorite single was Lois Lenski’s Strawberry Girl.
My childhood favorite was “What Was That?” It was about three bears eventually jumping into their parents bite when they hear the bumps in the night. My son just discovered it and that is so cool!!!
Dr. Seuss books
Our current favorite is “Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel” but we also went through a “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” fan-faze.
Little House on the Prairie book series are great. I remember reading it to the kids when I was home schooling. We read about how they made head cheese. We actually saw some in PA when we were visiting a deli, when we were getting cold cuts (again)(it’s another story but it was fun.) No, we didn’t want a sample either. Also my son liked the Little Critter stories. Would love a book to give to my granddaughter! :0)
The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton is one of my favorite children’s books. When I was a kid, we had a record or tape that went with it, and I just loved the music, as well as the story. I saw the set at a Cracker Barrel restaurant recently, and should have bought it–to me, the book just isn’t the same without the music.
So hard to pick a favorite but if I had to pick just one it would have to be The Velveteen Rabbit.
I personally love If You Give a Pig a Pancake and also Click Clack Moo!
I loved Danny and the Dinosaur and Sammy the Seal when I was a preschooler. I need to check them out for my preschooler now!
Any of The Berenstain Bears books….The messy room was my favorite as a child.
We love to read at our house so it’s sooo difficult to pick just one book as a favorite, but we love Click Clack Moo, Giggle Giggle Quack, and of course all of Laura books!!! I wish we lived nearby so we could see her, my son would be so excited!!!
I also can’t pick just one. But, a recent favorite is called The Boy Who Ate America. It’s really fun and has a good moral. My kids loved it! Here’s the Amazon link:

I suppose (one) favorite is “Where the Wild Things Are” — have been loving it for years LONG before they ruined it with that excuse for a movie (or so I heard)…

I love reading to my 6 grandchildren! One of our favorite stories is Ferdinand the Bull.
Right now, our boys are really into the Magic Schoolbus books. They aren’t always great stories, but they really teach a lot and keep our boys’ attention!

Blueberries for Sal is one of my favorites also, I remember my mom reading it to me as a child. The story of Ping is my son’s favorite right now.

OK, I think the funniest bedtime story of all time has to be “Click Clack Moo”. My husband and I laughed hysterically the first time we read it
We love all kinds of books around here but “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” is a favorite 
I love so many children’s books, but definitely one of my favorites is “Love You Forever”. I loved it before I had children and now that I have two sweet babies, I cry every time I read it!

We have been reading the SkippyJon Jones books lately…..my girls love it when I try to do the accents!! We have read the Jelly Beans books many times too.

My little ones love “Goodnight Gorilla”…very few words but great illustrations! I work near Ellicott City so I am hoping we will be able to make it to the story time!
My boy loves the “If you give” books. His favorite is “If you give a pig a party.” Other than that, his favorite changes by the week. This week it is the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom books.
When I was little I used to love “The Moster at the End of this book”…I think that’s what it was called… with GROVER in it! Loved him! It was a little scary and funny at the same time!
My favorite book to read to my children is God Gave Us You. Love it. Makes me tear up every time!

we love childrens books in general … my new grandaughters nursery was done in the hungary caterpillar that i have sewn for her. books feed the imagination and open doors to dreams.
My boys & I have always loved “Goodnight Me, Goodnight You”. I love the soft, detailed illustrations & the gentle rhymes!
We love the Skippyjon Jones series. The Scrambled States of America is great, too. My 2 year old likes any of the books by Sandra Boynton.
