RedRover: Make and Share Plans on the Go

I heard last weekend that 1 in 2 Americans will have a smart phone by Christmas this year. Wow!

Recently I learned of an app called RedRover. I was hesitant at first because it shares your location, but then I realized it only shares your location with people you know and who you want to know your location.

RedRover was developed by a busy mom for the busy mom. It is free and easy to set up because you can import your email contacts directly into the program. If you are planning a park meet up, play date, mom’s night out, bible study, field trip, or any other get together just enter the information into your phone (or computer). The people you want to invite will be notified of the event.

Here’s what I like about this app. Do you see this option at the end of the event?

You don’t have to let the entire world know your location! You can share it with the people you want and keep the crazy strangers in the dark about your location. There is the option to share it with all your friends, so you if end up hosting a spontaneous meet up and want everyone to know about it you can do that too.

The app is super easy to use and even has an emergency option which allows you to call 911, Poison Control or text your emergency contacts with the touch of a button. (There is a confirmation option so your two-year old doesn’t accidentally dial 911.

RedRover also helps you find the closest places if you want to meet up but aren’t sure where to go. You can search by kid friendly locations or locations with the cleanest bathrooms. (You can tell a mom invented this app!)

Here’s more about the app from the founder.

From now until July 28th, RedRover is donating up to $20K to Christy Turlington’s charity, Every Mother Counts for all app downloads.

I definitely plan on using RedRover for homeschool events in the coming year. It is a great way to let others know what I’m planning and get more people involved in activities without spending hours on the phone making calls or texting.

You can download the app for free for the iphone, ipad, itouch or Droid.

Disclosure: I was asked to review the RedRover app and will be receiving a gift card for my time. All opinions are 100% mine.

This looks like a cool app. It’s similar to Goba, but Goba allows you to create groups, so you don’t have to re-invite your friends every time. You can also import friends from your email contact list, phone contact list or other Goba friends.
I really love the feature of allowing you to keep your event private or public – Goba has that feature as well.
It’s about time we started diving into this world and creating better event-based apps.
