It’s time to get real here folks. This is my laundry room.
A refuge for all things that don’t have a place in my home.
The way you enter my house from the garage (where I park my car).
The place for…
shoes (not necessarily in pairs)
tools
dirty clothes
clean clothes
cleaning supplies
keys
reusable grocery bags
grain buckets
and more.
The problem is that I don’t like doing laundry in a cluttered, disorganized room.
That nice long counter is never available for laundry because it is always full of stuff. Stuff we either don’t need or belongs somewhere else. Since my family (not guests) enter the house through the laundry room it becomes the dumping place for everything going outside and everything coming inside.
This makes getting laundry done a pain.
What does your laundry room look like? It is a mess like mine? If so I’m challenging you this week to clean up your laundry room! Get it organized so that doing laundry is less of a chore. I mean laundry is still laundry, but isn’t everything better in a clean and organized environment?
Even if you only have a laundry closet or shelf you can participate! It’s time to clean out and organize our laundry spaces!

We have a similar layout for our laundry room. It connects the garage to the rest of the house. I recently gave it an overhaul and somehow, new paint has helped us keep it tidy.

Thanks for the giveaway!
I have a tiny laundry room with a couple of cupboards over the washer an dryer and a couple of shelves opposite. We have no pantry so the shelves are where I store food that doesn’t fit in the kitchen. I use wire baskets and shelves she make a little more space and big items like rice from Sam’s Club and the giant bag of dog food are on the floor. I did have all my kids’ craft supplies in one cupboard in there, but just cleaned it out this week and now it fits my canning jars, placemats, and the few disposable napkins and utensils we have leftover from parties. I try to keep the machine surfaces clear except for the detergent sitting on the dryer and a laundry basket on the washing machine for dirty clothes. Since it was just a few days ago when I organized it looks pretty good for now
I, too, have a laundry room that is more storage than laundry, including a nice shelf like yours that has “stuff” on it. I need to reorganize, too. Thanks for hosting the giveaway.
I’m so with you on this one. I just cleaned my laundry room last weekend. I had tons of plastic bags, missing shoes and much more I like it clean.
My laundry “room” is a closet where the washer and dryer reside. The w/d sit side by side under two shelves that hold everything from laundry detergent and ironing supplies to crockpots and serving platters. The dryer seems to get piled up with everything else that doesnt have a home. I think it is time to clear it all out and see what I can get rid of. Freecycle here it comes!
I am in the process of cleaning our den….YIKES!! Also trying to find a more “natural”nd affordable laundry detergent/soap.
Laundry is difficult for me since my washer and dryer sit in a closet in the main hallway. There is absolutely no room to fold or hang clothes. No room for baskets unless they are on top of the washer/dryer.
My family’s washer and dryer are in our unfinished basement. It is *icky* down there, but that’s where we have to wash all the clothes. Oh, well – at least we have the luxury of a washer and dryer!
My laundry room is so tiny, there are no shelves or anything. It is very frustrating, but I definitely need to get it organized!
I don’t have any words of wisdom. Our laundry situation is about to take control of the entire house. But I LOVE your walls!
Our laundry room seems to be a dumping ground, too. I tried to organize it with bins a year ago, but the bins are overflowing now. I think that another de-cluttering session is in order.
My laundry room is a constant battle, as it is also our pantry….and the room that holds our furnace and water heater!
My laundry room is in the basement, so it is too far from everything to collect clutter like the rest of the house. I hadn’t thought of that as a “positive” before.
I have been really thinking about what to do with our laundry room lately – I don’t feel like we are making efficient use of the space we have. I actually assigned my husband and father-in-law the assignment of seeing if this would work for us. I love the use of storage space! (http://ana-white.com/2011/01/sausha%E2%80%99s-washerdryer-pedestals)
I have a tiny laundry room, which is actually good because I have to keep it clean!
I just moved, so my laundry room is in good shape. Now if I can just keep it that way.
It’s just me so laundry isn’t a big deal to get done, sorry if I make people jealous! It is annoying that my washer and dryer are a few steps apart as it makes transferring laundry a bit harder. But I like to hang my clothes out to dry anyway when I can.
Mine is a laundry closet so It can’t get too cluttered because there is not enough room. I really wish I could line dry but our HOA prohibits it. So I use a drying rack that always seems to be in the way since we don’t have a laundry room!
Unfortunately, doing laundry is a chore I detest. Perhaps if I had a pretty and organized laundry room, I wouldn’t mind it so much.
Oh, laudndry. Not my favorite. Many times Hubby has to remind me that he has no clothes to wear.
http://semperwifey.blogspot.com
My laundry room is more than a room to do laundry I have a freezer, gun cabinet,my husbands tools, a vacumn cleaner, and all kinds of odds &ends that needs to be put in their places this room also has the stairs to the basement. everyone use this room to exit or to come in outside. this also means everyones shoes is kicked off as they come in from outside.
Unfortunately, my laundry room is also my pantry and the place I store my dishes and pots and pans–there is NO room in there! I really hate having a small kitchen! At least I can shut the door so I don’t have to look at it
My laundry pile is constantly growing and my kids are still little (7,5,2,3 mo)!
I wish I had a long counter to fold laundry. My laundry room is so small the door doesn’t even open all the way. At least it’s upstairs and not in the garage anymore like our previous homes.
My laundry room is also my only bathroom, my bathroom is also where the cat boxes go…needless to say it’s very much a utility room lol. Clothes get stacked on top of the washer and dryer, I do have a couple cabinets hanging above the washer/dryer and if you open them it gets scary. Those cabinets are where everything that doesn’t have a place goes, I kinda sorta have it organized right now but only so you can easily find everything in there, not necessarily because everything has a home.
My laundry room is also where I keep my scrapbook and craft supplies…and it’s a MESS! I would so enjoy my hobbies…and laundry…more if it were organized. Thanks for the motivation!
Terese
I’m just so happy my kids are big enough they can fold all the laundry – after all it’s mostly their stuff!
I have a laundry room about the size of a postage stamp, so it’s been difficult for me to do laundry as well. (Note to self: if we ever move, pick a house based on the laundry room and kitchen next time!!) I keep thinking one visit to The Container Store will solve my problems, but they can’t sell me square footage.
My laundry space consists of two machines and some detergent in a corner of the basement. X-D I would love to have a whole room devoted to it someday!
We had the same problem with out laundry room at one point. What helped us was buying decorative boxes with lids, and labeling them. That way the clutter is not in sight, it looks neat, and organized, and you can still find what you need. You could also use small drapes to cover up the hangers and other clutter over the washer and dryer. Good luck =)
My laundry room can be a catch-all sometimes, but when it gets to be too much, I clear it out.
We have a very small laundry room that also serves as our furnace room, electrical panel and our entryway to the house. This year I was able to put in cupboards that allowed for so much more storage. I did run out of money though when it came to finishing the project. Having an organized room has really helped me do more laundry and actually want to keep it clean.
How timely! I have been working to revamp our laundry “area” in the basement with labeled baskets so my girls can sort their own laundry. So far so good! Always working to make the system better and keep the clutter to a minimum! It’s a job that never seems to be done!
I love to do laundry and I use A & H! My laundry room is on the bedrooms floor (so convenient!) and it is a galley style – W&D on one wall, counter and hanging rod opposite wall. Right now it is in disarray – the counter is covered with STUFF, so it’s unusable; however, hubby hung cabinets above W&D last night and later today I will be able to clear counter and fill up cabinets! I have laundry sorters under the counter and a shelf above the hanging rod. After today, I have no excuse for a messy laundry room!
I have a laundry space in my apartment, and what I did was to buy some of those plastic
container in Walmart and stack them in the upper shelve. It looks better now, and I can use the space wisely. thank you for hosting this giveaway. It will really be nice and a blessing If I win.
My one and only bathroom also doubles as our laundry room and has our 50 gallon hot water tank. The top of the washer dryer serve as our bathroom counter since our sink is just a basin.
We have the same situation! We enter our house through the garage (also cluttered with too much stuff) into the laundry room, which is very large. I had a long cabinet with a contertop that I had intended to use to fold laundry. Instead, it became a dumping ground for mail, toys, etc. We went to The Container Store when they had their sale in January and put up some wire shelving units. We are able to take advantage of the tall wall shelves as an overflow pantry. Our big problem is our mail, so we are trying to sort it as soon as it comes in the house and also try to use your binder system for bills. The wire shelves are great! I want to get more for the garage and my pantry once we see them on sale again. Good luck!
I’m with you, but I’m not posting pictures
. The actual laundry is under control. It’s the other “stuff” that needs to be taken care of. Thanks for the gentle push to work on it this week.
I have a bigger than average laundry room, but it is such a mess! On one wall I could add a sink if I want, but I am having a hard time convincing the hubby that this change would be beneficial to us ;P. I have front loaders, so you can barely see my washer & dryer because so much junk is piled on top of them. I really need to figure out how to organize it all!
I don’t mind DOING the laundry, it’s putting AWAY the laundry
My dryer is PILED with clothes. My kids are 3 and 5 and I’m pretty sure I saw a 6-9mo outfits in the dryer pile. Maybe I should clean it off. I’ve always maintained the pile, so I never think about what it would be like without it. Our w/d are in our garage so when the garage gets really messy, it’s very hard to get to my laundry area…NEVER a good thing. it’s so much better than using the hookups in the basement, though!!! Thank goodness for main floor laundry.
You read my mind. This has been on my list for weeks, so I’m doing it tomorrow. Thank you for the motivation.
My laundry room is also my pantry! I have it pretty well organized because everyone sees it but I hate that its not just a laundry room that is hidden;)
Oh my laundry room is a HOT MESS! Its a store all for everything! I would love to clean it out and have space!
I have a laundry “room” with a door but really no counter space. It has cabinets but the shelves are not wide enough nor low enough to keep the detergent on. I am in need of laundry room storage! I’m IN! It’s gonna happen this weekend!!!
I used to have a “walk-through” laundry that served as the entrance from the garage. I was actually able to keep that one tidy and it had some awesome cabinets and shelves my hubby put in for me! Now, it is downstairs…I tend to start laundry and then forget about it. I can’t hear the dinger and I’m not constantly walking past it as I was in my old house to remind me to take care of laundry!
My laundry room is filled with clothes and cleaning products EVERYWHERE!! Dirty clothes, clean clothes, clothes that someone else gave us that needs to be washed. Every time I walk by the door, I sigh in frustration. I made it my mission to tackle my laundry room head on this weekend. Hopefully i don’t get lost in all of the madness
I have a big laundry room that seems to have been taken over by stuff. I could laundry a lot better if I got in there and cleaned it, but it scares me.
My laundry room is a dungeon…in the basement, peeling paint on cinderblock behind the washer and dryer, ancient concrete floors that are slowly disintegrating, exposed joists that love to collect cobwebs, the washer drains into a large tub with a sump pump in it and yes, it is OPEN. So lovely….ugh! I hate my laundry room but hey…we have different things to focus on budget-wise. The best I can do is to try and keep it clean, which means sweeping up paint chips and chunks of floor every week (thankfully the paint seems to be latex and none of the basement was painted originally, so no lead!!!) and about once a month I have to vacuum the joists to get rid of the creepy crawlies. That is weird chore to have to put on your list!
My fantasy is that one day we will have a house with a laundry room next to the bedrooms. Both of our houses have had basement laundry rooms. So sad. I do like the laundry drop from the bathroom to the laundry in this house, though. That’s convenient.
Our laundry room is in the basement. Lot’s of room but such a hassle to bring clothes from the 2nd floor to the basement and clean clothes from the basement to the 2nd floor. I would love a laundry room on the same floor as the bedrooms.
My “laundry room” is a corner of the bathroom where I had ripped out some cabinets. When we moved in the washer was in the bathroom and the dryer in the breezeway, so now we have them in the same room but absolutely no cabinets in the whole room. For some reason it never fails that I will be folding a stack out of the dryer and my DD will have to use the bathroom and of course there is no counter either. I am hoping to get to this in the winter but time and money for now are going to finish painting while the weather holds. I can not wait to see what everyone comes up with.
We just moved into a house so I have a clean slate for my laundry room. It serves as our pantry and is the entry from the garage, plus next to a bathroom, so it needs to look halfway decent. Trying to start keeping it organized from the get go so it doesn’t have to get bad.
Our laundry room is where our back door is. We have the washer & dryer, a big metal shelf with bins for recycling, the ironing board, and floor to ceiling built-in shelves that are about 6 ft wide. The room is 6ftx 20ft (ish).
I HATE going in there. The litterbox is in there and the cats track litter everywhere. Can’t leave laundry in baskets, because our older cat prefers that to cat litter. The kids shoes, skates, helmets, whatever get dumped there.
The shelves are full. Three are for pantry items (since I don’t have one). A few are for tools, lightbulbs, etc. I have a rolling cart between the W & D.
I just hate that room. There is a full shelf full of junk that needs to be tossed, but someone in my family is inevitably attached to the junk, so….
Oh, and the wall above the washer has an empty window (no glass or frame) because it used to be the outside wall, and the previous owners added the laundry room on. So I can’t hang shelves or anything above the washer anyway. Sigh.
Laundry! The bane of every parents existence!
Our laundry room is a tiny cave down in the unfinished basement–eek! But I am thankful to have it! It does have unpainted drywall walls. . . I keep hoping to paint them someday! But no room for folding. That happens upstairs on the couch.
Would love to win your give away!
I wish I had a laundry room. I wish I had a laundry closet. I wish I had a basement that my washer and dryer were in. I just wish my washer and dryer were inside the house! Ours are out in our garage (not uncommon in homes built in Texas in the 70s/80s). I have dreaded doing laundry this summer because the garage gets the afternoon heat and we’ve had over 70 days of plus 100 temps. Imagine going into a furnace and then picking up and lugging in an arm full of hot clothes (used to have a laundry basket-but it’s been lost-and besides, there really is no place to store one in our home). Also-in addition to the heat, we have lizards and other critters who like to crawl out there-so absolutely no folding or anything out there. I bring the clothes in, throw them on my bed, and sit on there while watching football games on Sunday afternoon. Gotta make it somewhat enjoyable.
We’ve recently moved & had to temporarily downsize. I’ve gone from a laundry room to a laundry closet! We’ve also started cloth diapering, so in addition to being home to my husband’s tools, animal carrying cages, bread makers & homeless socks, I also have diapers & covers & cloth wipes hanging all over in there! I need to get it organized before Baby #4 gets here in April!
I hear ya on the laundry room……we just moved a couple of weeks ago so it’s not quite ready to show. I need to do some painting and organizing and then it will be ready. I have noticed that it does become a catch all for things don’t know what to do with…..lol.
My next project is my laundry room. It is a mess!!! I want it to be a room I love to go in, well, maybe not love but at least not hate.
I simply seem unable to keep up with laundry. I have a very small laundry room and don’t quite know how to get it organized. : (
I have vowed never to have shelves over my washer again. I am constantly losing batteries, tape, other random items when they fall into the slowly filling washer and get soggy (or worse, get washed through the whole cycle). Ugh – next house – shelves NEXT to the washer (and/or maybe a front load washer) – it would also be much more short-person friendly (and there are 4 of us in this house).
The best thing I ever decided with our laundry situation (I have 5 children with another due in a few weeks) was that most of it doesn’t need to be folded. I have a basket for each room that sits in the floor of the laundry “hall”. All of my children are ages 10 and under, so you can imagine how the clothes get destroyed in the time they spend in the drawers. It’s just not worth the time and effort to fold! Whatever needs to be non-wrinkled gets hung up. We also have an old dresser in the laundry room that holds undies, sock, and pjs for each child. They all just stop by there on the way to or from the bath. We have two cabinets above the washer and dryer that hold detergent and lightbulbs and extension cords and “stuff”. I’ve made it MY room by writing inspiring quotes and Scripture all over the walls. I also have my children’s handprints from each year we’ve been here on the walls, too. It’s great!
We live in an apartment, so we just have a laundry closet. It holds our dryer and has a couple of shelves for storage. It didn’t have plumbing hook ups, so our washer is next to our kitchen sink about 10 steps away. It was weird at first, but I really appreciate having the w/d in our apartment and not having to go to the coin-op. Our folding space is also on our couch.
I don’t have a laundry room…my washer and dryer are out in the garage. I want to paint the wall behind the W/D so I have something pretty to look at (other than cobwebs and bugs!) In order to organize the space I would have to do the whole garage..so um yeah, kind of daunting to think about! It will get done soon though!
I do all my folding on my bed..it’s closer to the bedrooms so the possibility of the folded laundry making into dressers is greater!
I hate to say it, but my laundry room is clean and VERY organized. Still, I would love to win your giveaway. I love doing laundry – it is the rest of the house that suffers.
I just recently tackled our laundry closest, there were cobwebs that dated back to the 70′s I’m sure of it!!!
My Laundry is in the modge – podge room we have labeled as every thing from “play, guest, craft, laundry, dog, storage room” and has now finally settled on my new favorite……… “SCHOOL ROOM!!!”
So to get it ready and functional I organized it and evicted the residency of the cobwebs. It is now a bit better, if only I could find some one to DO the laundry for me……… ; )
my laundry is in the hallway to our bathroom. There is no place to hang or fold. I bring all the clean laundry to my kitchen and fold it on our breakfast bar. I actually glad that there is no where to fold since it doesn’t give me any chance to clutter it up! ; )
In the process of cleaning out the laundry room. I am adding quotes and pictures to inspire me when I enter.
Yup, that looks like my laundry room, only mine is tiny. It’s at the end of my kitchen, and I hate it being there. When I do laundry, I always have my laundry sorter and piles of stuff in the kitchen–I have to step over and around it when I’m cooking and working in the kitchen and it drives me crazy. It’s also where the door to the garage is, so whenever anyone goes in and out there, there’s always stuff in the way on laundry days. Blah. Our next house will have a nice big laundry area!
My problem with my laundry room is that it is downstairs in the basement. Laundry seems to make it down the chute (when I notice there are no kids’ clothes in the laundry basket under the chute and I convince my girls that if they want their clothes clean I need them downstairs NOW). But once clean, the laundry has a problem making it back upstairs into the closets and dressers (seems like it needs help from my children who would rather rummage through the baskets for a favorite shirt and ignore the rest of their clothing until they need something else). Am seriously considering putting dressers in the laundry room. It may help?
I was just thinking yesterday that I need to tackle my laundry room and get it organized! It is majorly the “collect all” room and it’s getting to be overwhelming. This is motivating for me to get with it!
ggiirrrllll… I’m with ya! Our laundry room is small and no matter how hard I try to keep it organized, our home’s lack of storage space causes us to shove things in there all of the time!
Just moved to a new house with a septic system so I can’t use my Old detergent with bleach so I’m looking for something saptic safe that actually gets my clothes clean! Would love to win this so I can try out Arm &Hammer!
Ok, I’m with you too! I have just a small laundry closet in the wall and I hate it! I think I would be more intentional about getting stuff washed/folded if I had more space. The clean laundry always ends up on the couch and doesn’t get folded right away. I really hate that!
I have a laundry area in my kitchen. The only thing that is messing up my laundry right now is that I have some plumbing issues. When you have a small laundry area right in the middle of the kitchen and my house is small, you have no choice but to keep it up!
I am taking up the challenge! I have a table that is not available to use since it is usually covered with “stuff.” I like doing laundry and knowing that all my clothes are clean and neat, folded and put away. It is a feeling of accomplishment for me.
I reorganized mine a few weeks ago and I can actually breathe when I go in there now. I even hung some Mary Engelbreit tin tops on the wall to make it cheerier.
The entrance to the laundry room, like yours, is in the garage as well (I prefer that in case there’s a leak). You’ll love it once it’s tidied up!
Oops… just saw the comment was supposed to be about laundry, not the room.
Mmm… I do laundry 3 days a week (even with just three of us in the house). Clothes 3x a week, sheets & towels 1x.
I’m so jealous of the space! Not the fact that everyone comes in and out through the laundry room – who thought of THAT in house layouts anyway? But the space and the long counter. I have a laundry “closet” with barely enough room for the washer and dryer, next to each other, a thin trash can between them, and one long shelf above them. I don’t have hanging room in there – I use the shower rod in the kids’ bathroom. I DID do a little organizing of the shelf a little while ago, but I’d really love to do better – not my top priority though. Good luck with your organizing!
I got so blessed with the laundry room in the house we’re in now! On the 2nd floor with the bedrooms, and so eay to keep tidy….Mine used to be a mess too. Laundry is hard enough without feeling cluttered. I feel your angst
I actually love doing laundry.
We have LG front loaders with pedestals. I get a little thrill every time I see them!
Dear Laundry Room,
OMG you actually have a floor! I am so sorry that it has been covered for so long! I promise I will work diligently on removing all the single socks, outgrown clothing, and misplaced items very soon! Maybe we can see what color the counter is in the near future! Thought it was such a great idea to build a huge laundry room! However, leaves lots of space for disorganizition if you dont stay on top of it!
My laundry room and pantry are one big room. I would LOVE to have a shelf like you have to work on my laundry…it ends up creeping its way into the living room where it takes on a life of its own. I have thought about taking out some of the pantry shelves to make room for folding and hanging in that room….but less pantry space…not too sure about that…………..
My laundry room is in the garage … not so nice during the winter months can be very chilly
Other then that just have the basics to do laundry … folding happens in the house
I have found that if the laundry room is clean, the house tends to follow suit…the same for when it is out of control and dirty (like mine is now). Good encouragement for me to get on it!
I am with you. Ours is just a little closet but the shelf and tops of the machines are cluttered. I’ve been thinking for the past few weeks that I really should get it straightened up. It will only take a few minutes but I’ve been avoiding it anyway!
My laundry area is about six inches wider than the washer and dryer, but still seems to get overloaded with whatever anyone wants to drop.
My laundry room is in the basement and we tend to dump lots of stuff in there that we don’t know where to put. I am definitely motivated to clean it–I hate working in a space where I have to step over everything.
Seeing your laundry room makes me think maybe I need to add some color to mine. It’s boring-and I’m sure that doesn’t help. My laundry area is a wreck, so this is a good challenge for me. Mine is also by the back door, but our back door is used rarely. I don’t really mind doing the laundry…it’s the folding and putting away that gets me.
Ah, Mt. Washmore. It’s always there, staring me down as I pass by…
My laundry room stays fairly organized. It’s in the center of the house in a room off a main hallway. But the accumulation of DUST and GRIME is another matter!! We recently gave it the DEEP…LONG overdue cleaning it needed…and I said WE. It took 4 of us to get the DUST and GRIME off everything, each taking a turn at it!! So good to have it done before a BUSY school year! :O)
My laundry room is a complete disaster and I am the only one who ever goes in there. I’m not sure that my dear husband even knows what a washing machine is! I could definitely use a “makeover” of my laundry room. It is depressing and definitely affects my mood!
PS…I’d love to have that nice counter top to fold on…I like to fold clothes right when they come out of the dryer. But if my set up was like yours…right off the garage…I think I’d have the SAME challenge you do!! Go for it…get it cleared and take the space BACK…for crisply folded clothes!! :O)
my washer and dryer are in the hallway, very little space
My ‘laundry room’ is basically in the middle of the house–you have to go through it to get from one part of my house (living room) to the rest of the house. Which doesn’t stop it from collecting everything–that probably makes it worse! I definitely need to work on that!
Just thinkin’ here: you could set a shelf below the counter the depth of a laundry basket and maybe have a basket for each family member. That would help with sorting and everyone could be responsible for putting their stuff away. Am I dreamin or what!? You could also put 2 shelves, not as deep, above your counter space to collect stuff like cleaning supplies and things that don’t get used daily(maybe 12″ deep-so you can use space clear up to the ceiling). Ahhh, visions of laundry rooms : ).
I have a semi-organized laundry room. As I put the wash in the washer/dryer(and am ever so thankful for these appliances!) I am continually thinking how the room could be better organized. We have peg boards on walls to utilize wall space for storage as well.
My laundry room is a small addition to my kitchen. It houses my washer and dryer side by side. There are 2 long shelves which are too high for me to reach completely. I am thinking of repainting the walls and storing my laundry supplies in baskets (so I can reach everything).
Our neighbor was remodeling and getting rid of his old kitchen cabinets. We took one of the old base cabinets, painted it “Tiffany” blue, and put an new laminate counter top on it. It is perfect for storing all of my laundry supplies and the top (when it’s not piled with junk) is great for folding clothes. The blue is a nice pop of color in our dark basement. We only paid for a can of paint and the laminate top. What a bargain!
The saving grace of my laundry room is that it’s upstairs… It’s just a closet with no pretty shelves or anything (one wire shelf), but NO ONE ELSE comes near it, hahaha, my one domain in the house! (Now if only I could keep the kitchen counters clean, which is the area where MY family enters the house…)
Oh yes…the never ending cycle of laundry. I too must reorganize my laundry room.
Thanks for post!
I just recently did this, as this is the first room that guests see when they come in the door. I feel so much cleaner!!
)
I have been slowly trying to organize our laundry room also. Even though it is upstairs it still becomes a dumping spot for every obscure item in the house. I am planning on putting in more shelves and clean out the cabinets.
Also it is football season and laundry is so much more enjoyable to fold and put away when you are watching college or pro football. Probably does not help you Toni but it may be a way for other wives to get their husbands to help with it. Just tell them they can watch football all day as long as they do the laundry.
My laundry room looks similar. However, mine is upstairs by the bedrooms so no one sees it but the family. I have been planning on cleaning it for a while so you have given me the motivation to do it this weekend. I am with you on cleaning it. I will clear off the table that is supposed to be used to fold laundry and take the baskets, toys, clothes to donate, cleaning stuff, etc off so I can use it for its intended purpose. I will clean under the table where there are empty plastic bags, trash cans, extra towels, rags, toys, etc. I will clean off the shelf where there are light bulbs, cleaning items, and I don’t know what else. And, I will organize the laundry piles on the floor so that I can throw the loads in much easier. I will then do the laundry and mop the floor once the dirty laundry is all put away. Thanks for motivating me to do this! And thanks for giving me a shot to win the giveaway.
I have noticed recently that most of my laundry “area”, which is part of our tiny bathroom and consists of a portable washer (no dryer), is cluttered by the many detergent jugs and stain treatment sprayers ,that I thought would help make our clothes looking pristine, are the main culprits of my clutter. I have since set my mind to cleaning up the cleaning stuff to just the basics.
My husband just bought me a cabinet with a fold out ironing board so I am organizing our laundry room and happily getting rid of the hand-me-down ironing board I have been using since we got married! I am so excited!!! (and even more excited that he found the cabinet for half off!)
I had to laugh at this one. The very reason I am reading right now is to AVOID going up to my laundry room!!! We just came back from camping last night and my laundry room looks like a wreck!!!!! My brilliant plan was to catch up on your blog, eat some Oreos and think about the laundry room tomorrow. So, I’ll go clean my laundry room but I’m still eating the Oreos!!!
Oh, and my laundry room is on the second floor…love it!!!!!
My laundry area is literally a closet in the small first floor master bath. It is great to have on the first floor, but it leaves nowhere for clean or dirty clothes. With no first floor linen closet I ended up storing clean, folded towels in a laundry basket on top of the dryer. Now to reach the dryer controls I have to slide it to the top of the washer.
I’m in, but I’m not sure I’m brave enough to post pictures.
My laundry room has been on my “to do” list for over 4 weeks now. Looking like week 5 just might be the week!
I have a laundry closet, and it’s difficult to keep organized! Like yours it collects everything that doesn’t have a real home.
Thats not so bad at all! My last one was also a stockpile storage area. I can imagine how everything gets set in there since you walk through it.
I have a large laundry room-long and narrow. But like yours it is full of things that really don’t belong there. I am going to take your challenge to try and clean it out this week!
I guess it doesn’t matter whether your laundry room is big or small – they will all get cluttered with unnecessary stuff if the homemaker isn’t a natural born organizer or doesn’t have the motivation needed to make the changes. Thanks for this article! My laundry room is rather large (holding stackable front-loading washer & dryer – that way I can’t pile stuff on top of them), freezer, hot water tank, ironing board, etc.) It even has a desk/office area that I can’t get to because of all the junk piled on top, and built-in closet cubicles so I can hang each family member’s clean clothes in their own space. The problem is I never taught them to be consistent about taking their clean clothes to their rooms, and they end up using the laundry room like their own closet – just retrieving what they want to wear from the laundry room! ** This article has given me some great motivation! Thanks!
My laundry room isn’t a room at all. It’s a hallway that has a shelf similar to yours and it’s LOADED with junk!!! I would love to organize all of that better ;P
Our laundry room is really just a large closet on the 2nd floor…there really isn’t any room to be disorganized in, however, all the dirty clothes take up residency in our master closet. I would love to better organize that part of the closet (or the entire closet for that matter)
. Can’t wait to see your laundry room all organized and pretty!!
My laundry room looked like this until a few months ago when ire ached the point you’re at now and organized it! I’ve actually kept my laundry under control for 2 weeks now by doing 1-2 loads each day and have even put it away as I did it! Woo hoo!
Your laundry room looks so much like mine but your walls are prettier. LOL
Our laundry area is in the (unfinished) basement. It is such an inconvenience to have to run downstairs 20 times a night when washing clothes, not to mention while carrying the heavy baskets! I would love to have a laundry area on the ground floor.
We just completed a whole house remodel … complete with a new laundry room! It’s not as large as what it is in my dreams, but it is functional. We have drawers, cabinets, a laundry “pass through” from our bathroom on the other side, as well as a utility sink. As far as the mess — we’re still in the “It’s new, let’s keep it clean stage!” Give us a few weeks on that though …
Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

Lol I have 7 children 13 and under. It’s far from organized I would love to be. Laundry room is off from my kitchen. Difficult but can be managed. Thanks
Ps. Laundry is never ending…lol
I don’t really mind laundry, especially in our new house where the laundry is in the hallway behind doors! Dishes are my issue…
Hello!
Our washer and dryer are in the “utility” room with our furnace and water heater. It’s also the area where we keep our cat boxes lol. It’s right off of the kitchen. I have one long shelf above the dryer and that itself isn’t too bad, but the dryer does collect a lot of odds and ends on top that shouldn’t be there lol. The problem I have the most is dust and pet hairs, especially by the furnace and water heater. I myself refuse to dust in that area because of spiders, so I leave that part to hubby! lol It’s so plain and dull in that area. Wish we could fix it up and make it look cute.
By the way, I LOVE your walls!! lol
my pile of laundry grow so fast I can never find the laundry room actually my husband is talking about setting up a cool laundry area fo me as opposed to the lack of one I have now
