Get Human

One thing I was not looking forward to regarding our upcoming move was calling all the different companies to set up utilities, internet, phone, newspaper, etc. I can’t stand wasting my time on hold, waiting for the next available representative. To solve this problem I asked my husband to call and waste his day off on hold.

But, he had a trick up his sleeve that I didn’t know about. It is called Get Human, and it is a website that has information for over a thousand businesses. Information on how to beat the annoying circle of elevator music and automated voices. Just go to their site and type in the business you are trying to contact. It will give you the information that allows you to get a human quicker than going through the normal channels.

For example, trying to get a hold of AT&T call 800-288-2747 then press 0 at each prompt, ignoring messages. How about Amazon.com? Dial 800-201-7575 then don’t press or say anything.

My husband used this today and saved a good amount of time, bypassing much of the hold system. Next time you need to call customer service give Get Human a try.

This is awesome! I usually put the phone down somewhere on speaker phone, but sometimes I forget about it–lol. The kids like the hold music, but I think I’ll give this a try :P

    YES! I love this!

Normally I just press “0″ on all phones and it gets you to a human. Ugh, I hate canceling services they always try to sell you something more in the process.

Something I’ve tried with great success is saying “agent.” Many times that will confuse the system and I’ll get transfered right away to a human!

My dh installs telephone systems. And he told me one time to press 0 most times it will get you to a human faster. I did it with the dr’s office and they somehow knew I pressed 0 and was not all that happy with me. lol. My dh did it with a company and they asked how he knew to press 0 and he told them he installs telephone systems for a living and knew how to get pass the junk. lol.

I don’t even waste my time on those computer phone calls. No matter what the “voice” says, I keep repeating “customer service,” and get transferred very quickly.

I do the same as others who commented…but some systems are wise to those of us pressing ZERO or asking for “agent”…and they just put you back to the beginning.

Love this tip! One more way around all the unnecessary time wasters!

  15. Best of luck with your move – you must be a pro by now!

For years I’ve done the pressing 0 thing, and it’s fairly successful.

Now I live in Israel & don’t speak enough Hebrew to get through the prompts, and that trick doesn’t work here. So it’s like a game: Pick Random Numbers and See Where They Take You. I have to laugh or it’s infuriating!

  17. Somebody's Mimi says:

What would we do without you and your dh??? How do you guys find these things? Very useful… I’m going to share this with my dh since he deals with all the phone companies we have (a deal we made alllllooooonnnnng time ago).

  18. Sherry says:

Sweet! I will definitely be putting this one to use. :D Bookmarked it!!

True story: after moving to AZ i found out that I needed to get my birth cert in order to acquire my driver’s license. Trying to get anyone on the phone to find out the status of my mail request (California…slow, slow, slow) got me nowhere. Finally after 6 weeks of my calling and getting no one on the phone, my husband tried. He called the number and with every prompt just randomly pressed a series of numbers. finally he got a woman who said, “how did you get this number?!!”. He said, “that’s not the question. Where is my wife’s birth certificate?” She checked it out and made sure we got it the next week. Random numbers, that is the trick!
