Frugal Toothpaste & Giveaway

Apparently I’m not alone when it comes to getting all the toothpaste out of the tube! A few of you fellow frugal toothbrushers actually cut off the tip of the tube to squeeze out the last little bit of toothpaste.

A few readers said it would last an extra 4 or 5 brushings! I’m so impressed! I’ve never cut the tip off my tube of toothpaste before, but I might be tempted to start, especially if I could get several brushings out of the extra toothpaste.

We also learned this month that children get more toothpaste in the sink than on their toothbrush. I wish someone would invent a product that lets just the right amount of toothpaste ON the toothbrush and keeps it on until it lands in their mouth! I would buy it!

Since I know you all love to save money, especially all you “cut the tip of the toothpaste tube off” people, Arm & Hammer has a free sample of its Advance White toothpaste available. I’m wondering how many brushings you can get out of a free sample? To sign up to receive your free sample from Arm & Hammer visit armhammerchallenge.com.

If you’ve already received your free sample you can print a $1 off coupon Arm & Hammer Advance White toothpaste on the website. This is a nice high value coupon for toothpaste so I’m sure you all will put it to good use!

Leave a comment to be entered to win a $25 gift card from Arm & Hammer! Giveaway ends August 21, 2011.

This is a sponsored post for Church & Dwight Co., Inc, the maker of ARM & HAMMER branded products, who is paying me to try different products. Don’t forget to head over to The Switch & Save Challenge where you can enter to win $25,000.

My kids could benefit from some kind of gadget that dispensed the right amount of toothpaste, too!

  2. sunnie says:

I have never cut my tops off either, I think I might try this!

  3. Irish says:

Thanks!! I was able to sign up for the sample, but wasn’t offered a toothpast coupon when I followed the other link. I was offered cat litter, baking powder, detergent, and spin brush coupons, but no toothpast coupon.

  4. Mari says:

I cut the tube in half to get another 2 or 3 brushings, but I’m the only one who will do out. Dh and son insists that TP tastes “stale” once it’s opened and exposed. Oh well. I have learned to pick my battles and do not impose my frugal habits too strictly.

  5. Krista Pettengill says:

I will have to try this, too!

  6. Katrina says:

I guess I’m just not THAT dedicated, lol… I can’t imagine cutting the toothpaste tube. I DO take something with a flat edge and try to smooth out the tube as flat as possible, but…

  7. Rebekah says:

LOve this! I always feel like I’m wasting toothpaste!

  8. shaka says:

I love arm&hammer everything! I use their laundry detergent and the litter!

  9. Joanne says:

I would love to win a $25 gift card from arm and hammer. I use the washing soda to make my own laundry detergent.

  10. Cassie says:

I have never tried cutting off the ends of the toothpaste. Seems a little messy but I may give it a try.

  11. Deborah G says:

Cutting the tip off seems like a good idea, but I think that I would have to be the toothpaste doler outer when that happens. I’m sure if I left the boys with something like that, more would end up being wasted.

  12. Johanna says:

Thanks for this giveaway! I use the small size for traveling with my family. Saves space and I don’t pay a dime!

  13. Dora Miranda says:

I also cut the top off of the toothpaste. It always seems like there’s plenty still in there and sure enough there is.

  14. Cassie says:

THere is always way more toothpaste in the kids bathroom sink here too.

  15. Akehia says:

I’m a “cut the bottom off the tube” kind of person! We use Tom’s, and it’s not cheap so I want to make sure we get every bit!

  16. Liz M says:

Our family of 5 once went on a week-long vacation and we easily made it through with all sharing one tiny travel-sized tube of Crest. The key was for Mom and Dad to monitor how much paste the kids were squeezing on their toothbrushes. :)

  17. Joanna M says:

2 of my kids would brush all day long, and can therefore go through alot of toothpaste lol. We are still teaching the right amount to put on the brush, and that it is not for decorating the sink :-) They will get it sooner or later, but we do cut the “empty” tube open to get the rest out.

  18. Judi says:

Not only toothpaste…I use a brand of face moisturizer that comes in a pump container…I was distressed when it seemed to run out early…nothing from the pump…I took my trusty kitchen shears and cut open the container like doing an autopsy (chest type/CSI fans!)…use it for almost two weeks more by putting it in a ziplock bag! It is worth it when these products cost so much! 2 weeks X 4 times a year=8 weeks a year! Ha,ha…I cheated Aveeno once more!

  19. Samantha R says:

Never thought of cutting the top off the toothpaste. I would love to win the giftcard!

  20. Heather S says:

Thanks for the great giveway! I la la arm & hammer baking soda!

  21. Kirsten says:

We keep a binder clip on the end of ours to keep it rolled down so we can get most of the toothpaste out. It works pretty well, but we may have to try cutting the tip off now, too!

  22. I’ve never thought about cutting the top off of it before! Good idea!

  23. beth says:

hm…i cut the containers of my face wash/body wash to get everything out but have never done toothpaste! will try!

  24. Amomto4sweeties says:

Wahoo! Money for date night would be awesome! As is free toothpaste… :)

  25. whitney says:

Thanks so much, glad I could catch the last moment of this giveaway. Kudos!

  26. Khristi N says:

I would have never thought to cut the tube. What a great idea!

  27. Jess says:

I will definitely try this. It will be a welcome change from standing in the bathroom and using up all of my strength trying to work out the last few drops squeezing from the bottom!

    Thanks! :)

  28. Joanna M says:

Love this idea! I always struggle with the guilt of what seems like waste when I throw the tube away!

  29. Lauren A says:

My girls wrote on our tile floor with furniture marker last night and I remembered reading this post! Toothpaste worked like a charm! Good as new! I would love to win this!

    • Lauren A says:

Oops! That was your other post :) I am on here too much! I have never tried cutting the tube, but definitely do everything else to get those last bits out! Might have to try it…

  30. WOW! I’ve never thought to do that.. I definitely try to squish the very last of the toothpaste out but it never occurred to me to cut the end off. I love the travel size toothpastes because they are perfect for my daughter to carry around with her now that she loves braces. Personally, I’ve received sample sizes before and used them for myself (not my kids or hubby.) I never counted but I know that a frugal person can get QUITE a few teeth brushings from a sample tube. ;)

  31. Kelly says:

I’m the one in our household that gets the last drop of toothpaste. I use the flat side of a comb and run it across the tube and flatten it out.

  32. Holley M says:

I just wish they made a toothpaste that would MAKE my son brush his teeth more!

  33. CJ says:

I would love to win the $25…and I use the soda for making laundry detergent.

  34. Cindy says:

Thanks for the heads up on the Arm &Hammer free sample!

  35. Julie says:

I hate wasting toothpaste too! Oh and I would love a date night with my hubby!

  36. karen t says:

Getting to the end, might need to cut the tip off :)

  37. Chris says:

I hate brushing my kids teeth. I wish someone would invent something that could do it for me!

  38. Lynn says:

At first being frugal for us was just a way to make ends meet. It was necessary. Now, it is really becoming a way of life. We may not have much, but we try to make the most of what we do have. I really enjoying finding tips and helping my children learn to appreciate the blessings we do have by using them wisely.

  39. Laurie M says:

Thanks for the giveaway! I love baking soda toothpaste. It makes my teeth so smooth! I have 3 kids and we use a lot of toothpaste!

  40. Jenn says:

So many useful tips! I can’t believe i have never heard of cutting the top off of the toothpaste tube before… i’ll be sharing that with everyone!! :)

  41. Heather says:

I am lucky to have great tooth brushers! My kids are good at sliding those tooth brushes down the tube to get the last bits out!

  42. Heather says:

Hmmm….I’m always looking for ways to save! I’ll give it a try next time! :)

  43. Kelly says:

Great, now I am going to have to start cutting my toothpaste tube too! :) I think my 3 year old will think this is a new game!

  44. Shannon says:

Thanks for the info, the link and the chance to win.

  45. Heather S. says:

I will usually go in and put the toothpaste on my kids toothbrushes while they are getting dressed. This way they do not get too much or spill a bunch in the sink…

  46. Brooke says:

With 7 mouths to brush, our family shoudl use this trick more often!
