Confession: I use paper plates for lunch. I have been doing this for several years to help streamline our homeschool day. It also allows us to only run the dishwasher once a day instead of twice.
I have often felt guilty about using paper plates every day, because I know it isn’t the “greenest” thing to do. But it is such a big timesaver for me, I live with the guilt. I recently received some Hefty Basics to try. I was interested in trying these plates because they are biodegradable for in-home composting and free of inks, dyes or coatings. I was worried that the “green” features of these plates would make them wimpy, but I was completely wrong. These plates were sturdy and held up to a full plate of food, including baked beans.
Hefty® Basics™ has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation™ on a quest to plant 10,000 trees, one for every ten new “Like”s on Facebook.

I have some coupons for Hefty® Basics™ to giveaway to one of my readers. If you are a closet paper plate user (like I was) these plates might help you sleep better at night.
Or, if nothing else, you can throw them in your compost bin instead of the garbage and feel a little better about helping the environment. To win some plates please leave a comment. Giveaway ends January 11, 2011.

These look neat, I would love to see how they hold up.
Haven’t seen these yet in my stores but will look for them but would love to win some free to try first….Hopefully coupons coming our way soon……..
My rule for paper products are for a party of free or nearly free with coupons, so I would LOVE to win these and save them for busy homeschool days.
Would love to try them. Might be good “brown” matter to add to my compost too. We don’t have enough dried leaves around.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely be buying these next time. Unfortunately I just nought a big pack from Sam’s for our new years party (and to use for lunches)
I would love to try them too. Using paper plates at lucnch would really help out a lot.
Hey sometimes we all need good paper plates, love that they are biodegradable!
This combines the best of both worlds!
Hi, My name is Tracy and I’m also a closet paper plate user!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I would love to try these. We don’t use paper plates often, but when we do I hate tossing them!
These are great! I’m so glad to see more companies making environmentally friendly products. Thanks for having this giveaway!
Those look amazing! It’s not very often that we use paper plates, but that would be great for camping trips!
Would love to streamline my day! Cleaning up the lunch table to continue school seems to take forever!
I do keep a little stash of paper plates for every once in a while. These would be great!
I’d love to try these!
This sounds like a great product. Are dishwasher kicked the bucket a year ago and I really want to use paper plates every once in a while but feel so guilty about the environment, this sounds like a great choice
*our dishwasher
Wow, that is really awesome! Can’t wait to try them.
We are without a dishwasher after our recent move and until we buy the house can’t do the remodeling necessary to put one in… so… I tell the kids we have 8 dishwashers
We do use paper plates for some dinners but never thought of making our homeschool day go easier by using them for lunch… great idea!
We use paper plates. My husband buys me a big pack when I get pregnant and when we move so at least once or twice a year we get a big pack of 220. We buy compostable ones from SAMs or Costco.
These would be great to try… thanks!
I am like you I believe that using the paper plates is not very green but it does save time. I also believe it saves water so there has to be a happy medium
Ohhh I’m a paper plate user here too. :0X I use plates too.. but with 6+ people here.. and NO dishwasher.. well.. we kinda get lazy.
I often use paper plates and I feel a little guilty about it, but not having a pile of dirty dishes in my kitchen makes the guilt a little easier to bear. I’d LOVE some green plates!
I use paper plates when we have lots of kids over around the holidays. THese would be nice!
I am guilty of using paper plates! I would love to win these
Thanks Happy!
Interesting… We don’t use paperplates much in the winter, but in the summer we use a lot! We haul all of our water so I justify using paper plates over the water & fuel to haul the water savings!
We use paper plates a lot during the summer – these would be great to try!
I have been unashamedly using paper plates since my 4th child was born. I’d love to try these.
I keep paper plate in the car because we bring our food with us when we go to town so we don’t have to eat out as much. I would rather use these instead of the ones I am using now.
Great idea! I’d use them for parties and those days I’m too lazy to dirty another dish after cooking a nice meal=D Hey, do they make a green version of those little dixie cups too? Our church nursery uses those every Sunday.
I am so excited about these! We are composters and try to keep trash down to a minimum. Thanks for posting about these because, though I would love the ease of using paper plates for our lunches, I never even look at them!
Very cool. I’ve not heard of these either. They’d be great to try. I don’t use paper plates often – even when I would love to – b/c of the guilt factor.
I also use paper plates and have that nagging guilt. I am a SAHM of 4 and those quick lunch, snack or dinner paper plates are easy to toss and make clean up faster. I would love to try these…:)
Would love to give these a try! I have stopped using paper plates for the most part, but keep some on hand for those crazy days.
We try to be very conservative with our use of paper plates, but we still do use them on occasion. If these hold up that well, they would be a great option for us.
Sweet, thanks for the giveaway.
I use paper plates when we have guests over for cookouts, pizza, a light snack or dessert because they really reduce clean up time. These are a great alternative that I would love to try.
)
I would love to try these, I, too have paper plate guilt…
Sounds like a great product! Thanks for the giveaway!
I would love to try these when we go camping!
Wow I can’t wait to try these……
I would love to win these dishwasher just died and with 5 people I have no motivation to cook. Really wondering what my Nana did she had 7 kids and had to cook for them. hmmm
With our dishwasher broken, paper plates are used more in our large household.
I use paper plates alot. I don’t feel guilty, we have at least 5 people eating here for pretty much every meal and no dishwasher, we homeschool and I just don’t want to mess with dish washing. I feel like I do so many other things, reuseable bags, line drying, recycling and reusing, etc., that I feel okay about my paper plate compulsion. Thanks for a cool giveaway!
would love to try these!
I’m interested in the composting aspect of these. We don’t use paper plates that much, mostly as a backup. Would you rinse them off before composting?
I would rinse them if they had a food residue that I wouldn’t compost, like meat.
I would love to try these! I am know to use the occasional paper plate and would love to do some thing better for the environment.
This would be great for me. We do not have a dishwasher and with 4 young boys I use paper plates as much as possible to cut down on my average of 2 hours dishwashing a day! Thanks for the contest!
I’d love to try these! With 6 kids – all at home – it could make our day so much easier! I’d even be willing to use them for suppers!!
I don’t like to use paper places because of how much waste they create, so this looks like something nice to try.
i cant believe that i’ve been doing an extra load of dishes, when i could be using these paper plates and using them as a teaching experience at the same time. first chance i get i’m heading out to find these and give them a try. of course i LOVE coupons and anything that i can save helps.
I would LOVE to use paper plates at lunch since I operate a small daycare. It would make this hectic time so much easier, but feel if I do it everyday, it is such an huge impact on the environment. These ‘green’ paper plates would be awesome to try!
Thanks!
I am all for helping the environment, and try to use as much organic things in my daily life as possible. I have looked for plates before, and am super excited now!!!
YES – take out pizza is always eaten on paper plate, what’s the point if you still have to do dishes!
I would love to try them because I just can’t bring myself to use disposable plates.
Hi! I’m a closet paper plate user
Some meals just work better on paper plates…and sometimes there’s just not room for 5 more plates in the dishwasher…
I love home composting plates when I do use them from time to time–these would be great!
This is my first time browsing through your website. I didn’t even know such a thing existed! These sound great and I am excited about trying them out for my family.
I admit that we use paper plates a good bit! Like you said, it lets us only run the dishwasher once daily! Thanks for the opportunity to try them!!
These sound great! Thank you!
I would love to try these!
Cool giveaway. I can’t wait to give these a try. Would be nice to feel less guilty about those paper plate kinda days!
I plan to use paper plates almost exclusively for the first couple weeks after our new baby comes and these would make me feel soo much better about that!
I am guilty of using paper plates- I reuse them if not used too much. Would like to try these Bio-plates.
I have cut down on paper plates because of the environment factor, but I just can’t drop them all together. With two little ones and us in a hurry, it makes life easier. Biodegradable paper plates would help with my guilt a TON. Thanks.
Thought these would be nice to try. Thanks for the opportunity.
I use paper plates too…and usually feel guilty about it. Would love to give these a try!
I have not seen these in stores, yet I am going to have to go on a hunt and find some.
Wow. These look very creative. We don’t like to use paper plates because of how much waist they create but at the same time with an 18month old sometimes its the easy way out. We would love to try someo of these in our home.
These look great! I hardly use paper plates anymore because I feel so guilty. Although the sink full of dirty dishes makes me feel guilty, too…what’s up with that?
I would love to try some. I have no dishwasher so I would get a little break.
thanks for the opportunity to try them out– I am curious.
these sound great!
I saw those at the store and wanted to try them. I love paper plates!
i am impressed with your comment about baked beans makes me think they will hold up to nachos and such for parties.
I’d love to try these, I also homeschool and have on occasion used paper plates because IT IS quicker and easier.
Thanks for the giveaway. Those look great!
I would love to try these. I also use way too many paper plates in my house.
Sometimes we need to use paper plates but I want to help the environment too. These would be great.
I try my best to reuse items in my home. Please enter me for this drawing. Thanks~
I am not a closet paper plate user. It is an everyday decor…down to the dixie cups with lids
OOOHHH! I wanna try these! I havent seen these before. They sure would save a lot of disagreements between my non-eco friendly husband and me.
paper plates are my guilt item. I compost, recycle and try to create as little garbage as possible. I have 5 kids and am homeschooling 2 currently with a 5 month old at home. Paper plates save me so much time in the kitchen. I can’t wait to find these and try them.
Would love to try these!
Would love to try these since we are moving– if we don’t have to worry about dishes, that would be so helpful!
Sounds like a great product. Looking forward to trying these!
We have alot of friends over and paper plates are it! Really looking forward to trying this product.
I would love to win! I try not to use paper plates, but when we have visitors people always assume we need them and end up bringing them to our house. If we had these around we could use them instead!
I’d love to try these!
Sometimes paper plates are a necessity, so it’s nice to know that a company is trying to make them “greener”!
This is great! Sometimes you just need to use paper plates, now with no guilt:)
