Help Wanted!

November 16, 2008 · 17 comments

I am looking for an awesome granola recipe. The requirements are pretty basic, my husband doesn’t like granola with a lot of nuts in it, and I would prefer something that tastes sweet but isn’t loaded with sugar. If you have a great recipe on your blog you can leave a link in the comment section. If you don’t have a blog and want to email me your recipe that would be great as well.

Thanks!

Here is a link to our granola recipe. I don’t know if it’s more sugar than you wanted, but it tastes great! We have step-by-step instructions and the full recipe is at the bottom of the post. Enjoy!

Toni,

Do you have the Breadbecker’s cookbook? There is one in there that our family likes pretty well. We just do the bare bones granola bar recipe with nothing added. Here’s what they write:

“Melt together 1 stick butter and 1/2 cup honey. Pour over 4 cups rolled oats and stir well to coat. Bake at 400 for 10 minutes. Stir and bake 5 more minutes if desired. We use this for cold cereal.

This is the base of this recipe. I like to add about 1/4-1/2 cup nuts, 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut (we use fresh dried), and about 3/4 cups raisins to the oats before baking or add the raisins after baking as desired. Experiment also by adding spices such as cinnamon or vanilla to the butter and honey mixture. If you boil the butter hand honey for about one minute before pouring over the oat mixture and do not stir after baking, when cooled these will stick together more like a granola bar. Be creative!”

Hope this helps!

Warmly,
Elizabeth

Here’s my favorite granola recipe: http://www.katheats.com/?page_id=4185

It’s super easy, very few ingredients and actually quite low in the fat dept. considering it’s granola. :)

Here’s a link to my favorite granola recipe:

It does call for slivered almonds, but I see now reason that you can’t omit them. There’s a bit of dark brown sugar, but it’s not overly sweet. Hope it works for you.

Here’s what our family likes:

Peanut Butter Granola

2/3 c. oil
3 c. peanut butter

In heavy saucepan, melt together over medium heat. Remove from heat.

Add 2 c. brown sugar. Stir until fully dissolved.

Pour over 14 c. rolled oats. Bake @ 300 degrees for one hour, stirring every 15-20 minutes. Cool. Enjoy! :o )

This is my personal favorite. Slightly sweet, but still really healthy. http://minkona.blogspot.com/2008/10/recipe-granola.html

I’ve been perfecting the recipe for several years and we think it is great! We like it with my homemade yogurt!

Here’s a granola I make for our nut-free household. You can add nuts/seeds/whatever. It’s also a very flexible recipe as far as sweetness goes.

I can’t wait to see all the recipes.

The one I have used is and I omitted the nuts
4 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. honey/maple syrup
1/4 t. salt
Melt butter and honey or syrup. Combine with oatmeal and salt. Pour onto shallow pan (I usually use a jelly roll pan). Bake at 300 for 30 minutes. Stir after 15. :D ENjoy!

I can’t wait to see all the recipes because I have been looking for one too that doesn’t use nuts and is not so heavy on the sugar.

After seeing your post, I linked you over at my blog along with asking for my own recipe help. :)

You can find our ultra favorite recipe on my old blog at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Honeybee/416675/

There are a couple of adjustments I’ve made. I use 1/3 c of the coconut oil and it’s much tastier and better for you. We also change out the nuts using sliced almonds occassionally, in place of pumpkin seeds. I’m sure it would be tasty w/o the nuts too!

This is REALLY good stuff!
