I love Ikea! They are so cheap and have so many great storage and home solutions for less. My newest find at Ikea is actually a money saver. I don’t like to spend money, especially on necessities like dishes and such. I wait until I absolutely need something or I find it on super marked down clearance before I buy it. The bowls we are currently using I purchased on clearance for about 50 cents a bowl a few years ago.
The problem is these bowls are huge. The kids would fill them up and then sometimes couldn’t finish their meal because they were full. It wasn’t all their fault, the bowls were deep and begged to be filled by little hands. But, I couldn’t justify spending money on new bowls because I already owned lots of them.
Then on a recent trip to Ikea I found these…

They are plastic, dishwasher safe, unbreakable and even microwave safe if you use one. And they are little. My kids no longer waste food at meals because these bowls hold just the right amount. They are great for grown-ups too. The whole visual, the bowl is full so I am getting a lot of food psychology thing can be a great way to eat less and lose a few pounds.
New Bowl/ Old Bowl

The bowls cost $1.99 for 6 at Ikea. They paid for themselves the first week since the kids were finally getting kid sized portions and finishing their servings.
Kid sized dishes Work for Me!

I saw those last time I was at Ikea. Loved them but didn’t buy any because I didn’t want to have to ship one more thing in the cross-country move. I’m definitely going to have to pick up a set or two next time I go to Ikea-land.
Brilliant! And you’re not tempted to finish their leftovers.

We have those same bowls! Love ‘em!!
Didn’t think about that, but you are right Katie!
We have some of those for our kids too. I love them!
I have them, too (for my visiting little friends), as well as the matching plates, cups and cutlery.
this is gerat. I totally need this
you have no idea how much food we waste trying to feed my son.
We started using these as soon as my son began eating regular whole foods along with the matching plates. They’ve been great! He really wants to use the same dishes as we do now like a big boy, but I’m definitely saving them for our second son!
If you wanted to avoid heating up food in plastic dishes, then you could look into Pampered Chef — they carry a one-cup and two-cup version of “prep bowls.” They’re glass bowls with plastic lids and they’re dishwasher, freezer and oven space. They’re not as inexpensive as the Ikea version, but they’re worth it
I’m a fan of saving extra food, too! Nice post!
I have those bowls too and love them! They are just the right size for ice cream too!
I hear so much about Ikea, I wish there was a store close to us.
Thanks for sharing!

I had bought these over a year ago with the plates, cups, and silverware. They make great picnic and on the go dishes as well.
Also, last time I made up a batch of pudding, these were PERFECT sizes for the individual cups.
My MIL just bought those bowls (and matching plates, cups, and flatware) for my kids (2yo and 1yo). I LOVE them & my daughter loves getting to pick out what color she is going to use for each meal!
We have the matching cups—they’re really nice. We were using glass cups and coffee cups because I was too cheap to buy new ones but the kids kept breaking them! I broke down and bought the plastic set at Ikea and we love them. The cutlery is nice too—the spoons are just the right size and the knives—my boys love to pretend to cut things.
Thanks for this! I need to run to Ikea now and get some bowls.
A few years ago after I got married, I needed some small bowls because the cereal bowls with my dish set were WAY too big for desserts, etc. I found some really nice glass ones at IKEA for something like either 99 cents or 1.99 like yours. They are the perfect size for a small dessert of sorbet or something. Yours are really cute too!
I wish we had Ikea… I have similar bowls (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G8HNAU) from Munchkin. A set of 5 was a few dollars and both Wal-mart & Target carry them. We use them for all things (cereal, snacks, ice cream…)
I love Ikea too. I don’t have those spcific bowls, but I use salad size plates for my own meals to help me with my portion control too.
Love them so much I almost went back for more! Plus I bought a pack of the plastic plates that match and I don’t buy paper plates anymore.
I don’t live close to an Ikea, bummer, because I really need some smaller bowls!
I’m with Lindsey on the glass bowls with lids; mine are Pyrex 1-cup size. They hold a good serving for my 4-year-old, but if he doesn’t finish it, we just pop the lid on it and stick it in the fridge. It later can be microwaved in the same bowl. And they wash really clean; I’ve always had trouble getting grease and tomato sauce off plastic esp. after it’s been scratched by forks.
But I’m glad you’re enjoying your bowls, and the different colors must make it easy to tell which is whose!
Becca-
I agree tomato sauce is a pain to get off plastic! Do you have trouble w/ your glass bowls breaking. My kids are such butterfingers, it seems like they are always dropping things in the kitchen. I actually have some of the pyrex bowls with lids. My dh takes them to work for lunch, he tends to drop things less frequently, lol!

I absolutely love these bowls also. I have had them for over a year now and they really are perfect. The best part is they are also durable. After all the use they have had they still look like new, unlike some of the other kid bowls I have gotten.
We have the bowls, plates, cups, and silverware! Love them!
