After reading your comments from my gas prices article, I realized that now is a great time to stock your pantry. For those of us who live up north, a trip in the cold weather is more expensive than a trip in 70 degree weather. We use more gas because it takes time to defrost and warm up our cars before we go anywhere. A well stocked pantry can keep our shopping trips to a minimum this winter.
I also read a neat tip in the The Tightwad Gazette last night. If you park outside (which I do) park your car so that your windshield faces east. The sun will help melt the frost on your windshield quicker, and you will spend less time defrosting your car in the morning.

My grandmother didn’t have a garage, so, her car was always parked outside. She put 2 small doormats on her windshield at night and in the morning, just peeled them off. Nothing to scrape or defrost!
Thanks for the tips!
Ps. Glad to see you survived the gym…and waking up at 5:45! Lol!
The parking east trick would only work for late risers. The sun is not out when I leave for work, thankfully, neither is the frost either since I live in FL. My wonderful husband also let’s me have the spot in the garage, so I am set for those few frost days here.
I always do a winter stock up every year. I do alot of meal planning and really stock up on the things we use the most of. The gas savings are great since I only have to go out once a month or so. Part of my winter stock up is books ot read. I buy lots of cheese when it’s cheap and freeze it and things like that plus we can and freeze veggies from our garden so a pot of chili or veggies soup is cheap to make.
When we lived in ohio for 5+ years (we now are back in Texas) I would put a large junkie towel over the front windshield before an ice or snow storm. When you need to get out and go quickly, just remove towel and go! I also kept a broom in the garage handy for quick snow removal over the whole van!
Up until last weekend we had a carport. The wind so kindly ripped it in half. So I will be taking your advice! Have a great day!
