Our family likes to take field trips and weekend vacations. Feeding eight people during our outings can really break the budget. We save money by packing our lunches. We also save money by bringing our own water bottles.
Everywhere I go, people are carrying plastic water bottles, Evianan, Deer Park, Aquafina, just to name a few. Bottled water is expensive and the plastic bottles create tons of waste if they aren’t recycled. In order to save money and resources our family has purchased several Nalgene water bottles. When we go out, we fill the bottles with our filtered tap water. The cost of the Nalgene bottles are less than the cost of us purchasing dozens of bottled water a month. You can also purchase bottles in different colors so your family doesn’t mix up their bottles.

We use the same water bottles over and over. Once they get worn out, I will purchase a new bottled water, and continue to use it until it’s worn out. I sterilize the lids if one of us has been sick, so they work out really well for us.
And….they fit really well in the cup holders in the car!
Oh how funny, without first seeing your post, I just posted on what we do for water too. LOL That must be the theme of the day! Blessings and thanks for sharing!
Our tap water tastes bad, so I have been threatening to get a water filter to do our own water bottles. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yes, this is a must. I too other than being a frugal mom of 4 boys. I also hate to many plastic bottles. I hate adding to the land fill. I have taken this one more step further. There is too many health issues linked to eating a drinking out of plastic so we are in the process of getting stainless steel drinking bottles. For example when I googled I found ones like …

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I love your idea for having different colors for each family member. That would save a lot of confusion in my house! Great tip!
I’m with you there! We ALWAYS have water from home with us. We love Camelbak brand water bottles!
It’s cheaper and healthier to eat from home! Our 2 year old is in constant need of some sort of snack and this enures that I don’t spend a fortune on junk for him just to keep him happy!
You are so right! Your program helps save $$$ while saving our environment.

Great idea! I have been blowing off those cute little water bottles at Whole Foods, but I will have to check the prices now. We hike alot; so we are using bottled water all the time…
Please don’t reuse plastic water bottles (ie. the case water like from the cases of Aquafina etc.). I’ve been recently doing alot of research on plastics and bpa chemical leaching…ughhh! Going stainless is absolutely the best idea! CAUTION…check out the bottles and sippys your young children are using too!
