Money Saving Ideas on Pinterest

The following is a guest post from Andrea Lyons.

As a stay-at-home housewife of four children, I am always on the lookout for frugal living ideas. Like so many families today, my family lives on a tight budget and it can be a real challenge making ends meet. I am happy to report that I’ve been able to discover a variety of creative money-saving ideas and strategies on Pinterest, a photo-sharing service that is loaded with fascinating multimedia content.

I want to share some of the money saving ideas I’ve discovered on Pinterest over the last few months. Read on, curious frugal saver…

Make Your Own Homemade Products

Pinterest is absolutely packed with ideas for all-natural homemade products anyone can make with just everyday ingredients, which can result in major savings. I’ve created homemade toothpaste, liquid soap, laundry detergency, bathtub cleaners and skincare items from all-natural ingredients. These homemade items do not contain any harmful ingredients and are mostly very easy to make!

Pinterest is also excellent for entertainment purposes. I’ve come across excellent arts and crafts ideas that serve as perfect bonding activities with my children.

Free Recipes

One of my favorite uses of Pinterest has been to indulge my passion of eating and cooking. Pinterest is like a massive free virtual cookbook! The photo-sharing networking tool really features some mouthwatering recipe ideas.

I prepared a lobster and ricotta pizza with basil and egg last night that my family devoured. I hope they enjoy the spinach artichoke grilled cheese sandwiches I have planned for tonight! Thanks to Pinterest, I don’t have to spend any money on expensive cookbooks and I have convenient access to amazing recipe ideas.

Follow Other Frugal Savers

Pinterest really has succeeded in creating an entire virtual community. It’s very easy to find other users who share similar tastes and interests as me. I’ve been able to follow the boards of other “pinners,” which has provided me a consistent stream of money-saving ideas.

One user I follow, for example, often pins digital grocery coupons that she finds online. These coupons have really helped my family save money on food. Another user I follow recently pinned an image that featured a terrific link to 50 ideas for frugal family fun nights. By following other Pinterest users who share an interest in frugal living, you receive a constant stream of money-saving ideas and strategies.

Pinterest really is loaded with creative money-saving ideas. These tough economics times we live in call for taking creative steps to save money. I highly recommend that you create a Pinterest profile and explore the photo-sharing tool to discover some of these ideas and also network with fellow frugal savers. I’m a very happy housewife thanks to Pinterest!

  1. I agree! I would also add that pinterest is really helping me look at common everyday household items creatively. I saw a wonderful pin on making jewelery out of the plastic containers my organic greens come in. I saw another one showing how to take a too small tank top and add fabric to it and make it a dress. Yet another one I loved was taking old t-shirts and making them into head bands! all things I would have seen no use for, and now I can reuse.
