Frugal Decorating

wfmwsmall Frugal Decorating

I have been married for almost fifteen years. In that time I have lived in eleven houses. I do not like to spend a lot of money on items to hang on my wall because every eighteen months or so, my walls change. I don’t like living with bare walls either, so I have found a way to decorate my walls for very little money. I purchase inexpensive frames at yard sales, thrift stores, Target or Ikea. Then I print out some of my favorite pictures we have taken over the years and frame them. I also frame the kid’s artwork. I try to group my pictures together according to themes, black and white, nature, kid’s stuff, etc… It really brightens up our rooms, and because the pictures are small, they can be arranged differently each time we move.

I agree that personal photos make for excellent decor! I recently took some photos of my daughter’s rocking horse and I plan on framing a few and hanging them in the playroom! Thanks!

I’ve got to take some pictures of my own walls and send them to you. They look so much like your portrait wall—kids, kids, and more kids’ beautiful faces everywhere!

I love the idea of framing your kid’s artwork. We have plenty of that. Just have to go get some frames now.

I really need to do something like this, it looks great.

I do the same thing!! All of my frames come from our local thrift store…the eclectic wooden ones work best with our southern country decore, and i sometimes find brand new frames with 20$ price stickers on them – yet i never pay more than a quarter or so for any of them at the thrift store! Sometimes nice country artwork comes in the frame, other times we use family photos, and sometimes I cut up old calendars whose pictures were so pretty I didnt want to part with them! The artwork on our walls really ties together the whole look of our house – and it cost me next to nothing to fix everything up.

I get sick looking at “new” frames in walmart that cost more than 10 bucks each! EEK!

  6. I LOVE that you have framed the kids artwork to hang in their playroom!! I love doing this to display the really good stuff. And it adds so much color and playfulness to the room!

Good ideas! I especially like the B&W grouping of photographs. :)

  8. Wow… eleven houses in 15 years?! Makes me tired! Looks like you really have a decorating nack (something I DON’T have)! Those pictures are great!

I am still learning the whole decorating thing:) I was talking to a friend last week.. and noticed that there is no ryhme or reason to my decorating or lack there of :)

I love the black & white pictures. I may copy you, and do something like that in my hallway. I have a pretty long hallway, and it is all blank! No pics, nothing… I think you’re idea would work really well.

Great ideas! I need to look into finding some more frames, especially for artwork.

Beautiful! :) I did this at our previous house, and loved it. Most of those pictures are in storage right now, though.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
