CVSing Again

For a while I had stopped going to CVS, I didn’t really need anything, and my cabinets were overflowing with toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc. Then last week my husband purchased deodorant. He actually paid money for it, without a coupon! I about died and realized I needed to get back into the CVS swing of things.

The deals were a little sparse this week and I didn’t have any ECB’s so I did my best.

I paid $11 for the toothpaste and then received my ECB’s. Then I purchased the diapers and paid about $5 oop after ECB’s and coupons. I also earned $5 in ECB’s from the diaper purchase. So now I have $5 to work with for next week.

I needed to go to Walmart to get some canning supplies so I checked out Crystal’s site to see if there were any deals this week. There were a few, so I got my coupons together and headed out. The Walmart by me is definitely more expensive than the one mentioned on Crystal’s site, but I was still able to get a few great deals.

The cereal was $0.88 after the $2 coupon, the Nestle was $0.25, and the Powerade was -$0.12. I also purchased some Goody hairbands because there was a $2 off coupon and with 3 girls we can always use more hairbands. When I got to the checkout counter I handed the lady my coupons and she rang up my purchases. She started to scan the coupons and had trouble scanning them because they had been in my husband’s pocket. She was finally able to scan them all but then she wasn’t going to give the the $2 off for the Goody hairbands. She looked at me and told me it wasn’t right because I would only be paying $0.12 for the bands. I showed her on the coupon that is said the purchase had to be over $2 and my bands were $2.12. I didn’t remind her that I had just made $0.12 on the Powerade, because she was worked up over the Goody coupon. She then told me she had to go to a manager to see if I could use the coupon. Everyone behind me in the express lane was thrilled, I am sure. She finally returned and told me I could use the coupon but a manager had to check all coupons because people use a lot of coupons at Walmart… huh?

I was once again reminded why I do not shop at Walmart! I did spend a few minutes cruising the aisles and was surprised to find that they were competitive on many dry goods with Commissary prices. Not good enough for me to justify driving 20 minutes further, but if I lived near a Super Walmart I might watch start watching their sales.

Wow, I’m surprised you had that experience at Wal-Mart. I use a lot of coupons, including the printable ones, and never have an issue at all – including the Goody one. I have to say, the people at my Wal-Mart are just so nice. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t the same. That would have made me quite unhappy. I’m doubly glad to like the people at my Wal-Mart, because there is just really no comparison with the other stores here.

I am so sorry you had that experience at WalMart! I don’t understand why they care what you end up paying OOP…they get reimbursed for the value of the coupon and then some! Grrr. I have 2 other stores near me that double coupons, so I usually end up shopping there rather than WalMart. I have some moral issues with WM, but sometimes I just can’t beat the prices and my family needs to eat…so sometimes I just bite the bullet…

What??? You haven’t hung your pictures, yet???? And is that cereal healthy? AND POWERADE?? What is happening?

  4. I had to buy deodorant the other day too, and pay for it. Yikes! I guess I need to stock up more on ECB deals when they have them!

I can’t imagine why she’d care, they’ll get reimbursed. Recently I bought my son some shoes at Goodwill that were about $4.99 These shoes were in good condition and retail at probably about $120-$140. The clerk was not happy that we were getting such a good deal on the shoes, he said they were worth much more than we were paying. I said I knew that, and reminded him that the shoes were donated to the store, but he was still unhappy. He said he was going to talk to the management and he did. Nevertheless, I still got the shoes at $4.99 but the last time we checked they were charging more money now.

I used the very same coupons at my local Wal-Mart(Kansas), plus several more, and didn’t have any problems at all!

I do all my shopping at Wal-Mart. Only because it is the cheapest place around here (Oklahoma). Once in a while I can find a good deal or two at Homeland, which doubles coupons. But they are considerably more expensive. I don’t even bother watching the Wal-mart sales. Everytime I open an ad, the price listed as the “sales price” is the same price I’ve always been paying. They even put fake sales prices on the shelves. They will put a sticker on the shelf that says an item used to be a higher price, but it never really was. It makes me SOOO mad. They are just lying to people who don’t know any better.
