Aloe

If you are looking for a frugal gift, how about an aloe plant. We grew this plant from a shoot someone gave us a few months ago. Aloe has great medicinal properties, we have used it to soothe burns for most of my life. Aloe plants grow well in warm climates so if you live up north bring them inside to a sunny window in the winter.

When we received our shoot we placed it water for several days and then transplanted it to a pot with soil. I plan to take several shoots and grow some new plants so that I can give them as gifts this Christmas. If you invested in an aloe plant you could probably grow several plants from your one plant. This would make a nice gift for a teacher, pastor, or neighbor this Christmas.

You can read more about the aloe vera plant here.

Thanks for the great tip. I actually killed my last aloe (go figure . . .), but have grown in my horticulture abilities since then. I’ll have to buy one and try that. I love the Christmas gift idea! coaches, teachers, etc., etc.

    Thank you

I might have to get one of these. My other plant is doing well despite dh thinking it wouldn’t live. LOL! :D

  4. Aloe plants are hardy too. Ours almost died a few times but we revived it with water or sunlight, whatever it needed. :)

I need some aloe too! I want to try some homemade hand sanitizer, which calls for aloe vera gel.

We keep an aloe plant in the kitchen for burns and abrasions. This past summer it got picked apart by 100 or so VBS kids. I was the herb shop keeper . But it survived and is recovering nicely.

We have an aloe plant that we love. It comes in handy out here in the desert with sunburns, scrapes, and the assorted other maladies that find us.

Thanks for sharing your tip – I hadn’t even thought of dividing the plant. Hmm….

    Have a lovely day!

Since the plant is such a pretty green, it would look nice it a red decorative pot to tie in with Christmas colors. Or you could just wrap an old pot in holiday tissue paper or decorate your own paper to wrap it in.
