February Grocery Goal ~ Updated
Update- Thank goodness February is over! I am excited to say that I met my grocery goal. I had budgeted $600 and my grand total for last month was $520.32! Since I am still feeling good about meeting my goal from last month I figured I would set a goal for March. Thanks to a ton of free food we received this weekend, I am setting my March goal at $575. I will keep a total in my sidebar, same as last month. Thanks to all of you who left we tips on how to eat out of our pantry last month, and how to stretch the grocery budget!
I know there are many people out there who spend less than $50 a week on groceries. I do not. Five years ago I was spending $1200 a month on groceries for a family of six. I realized that cutting our groceries was a great way to lower our monthly expenses. The biggest change I made was to plan our menus, I also did some once a month cooking. Now I have my grocery budget down to $850 a month for a family of eight. That includes everything from food to diapers to cleaning products to air filters. This month my goal is to spend $600. I am going to use CVS deals, coupons, and commissary sales to help meet this goal.

I just looked at our groceries and we spent $1000 in December for our family of five (although two of them are teenagers). Then I decided to keep track of all groceries for January and found we spent $1200. I was shocked, but am glad to see I am not the only one. The next step is to do what you did: more meal planning to try and lower our bills.
I love the way to set a goal, create a plan, track your progress and challenge yourself to do better than before.
Good Job!
