Exploding Tupperware ~ Update

This is my Tupperware cabinet. People who know me know that this is one area of my house that is never organized. I have even had friends and family try to organize it for me. Today my goal is to organize it and then to keep it organized for a month.

I will post a picture every Monday in order to keep myself accountable. This cabinet is a source of frustration for everyone in my family who is old enough to help in the kitchen. We usually spend 5-10 minutes searching for a storage container and it’s matching lid. If this cabinet was organized I would be likely to use Tupperware to store things instead of ziplocs and foil, which would save me money and create less waste.

In order to organize my cabinet I found a few helpers.

Then we set our timer for 15 minutes because I promised them it wouldn’t take long if we worked together, and they were hungry for lunch.

We took everything out of the cabinet and tried to match containers with lids.

After we matched all the lids to containers we had a few extras that we will either give away or throw away.

Then we loaded everything back into the cabinet.

We even had time leftover.

Total time spent 12 minutes 30 seconds. Time saved, about 5 minutes per meal.

  1. Congrats on getting it organized! Growing up organizing the tupperware was one of my favorite cleaning things to do…that and dusting.

  2. I just found your site through the WordPress homepage.

I have a suggestion which helps me keep my cupboard like this clean.

    1. Clear out your cupboard and get rid of any extra lids and containers which don’t match (you’ve done this)

    2. Take a large square container (the green one in the front of the first picture would probably work) Put ALL the lids upright in this container

    3. Stack the containers in the rest of the cupboard, there will be a lot that stack inside each other and therefore take up less space than stacking them on top of each other with their lids on

I’ve been able to keep my cupboard orderly for about 12 months now using this system and finding lids is still easy.

  3. I cleaned out my plastic cupboard yesterday, too. It feels so good! Good luck on keeping it nice.

  4. Great job!! I need to go do that to mine again!
