Easy to Read Content

People who read blogs are skimmers, and reading online is more difficult than reading print.  You should format your content to make it easy for people to skim and read.  The best content in the world is wasted if nobody reads it.

Use white space to break up text.

Conventional paragraph rules don’t apply when writing online.  Paragraphs should be no more than  three to four sentences.  Short paragraphs add white space to the post and make it easier to read.  Long paragraphs lose people’s attention quickly.

Use bold and italics to emphasize important points within the post.

This enables people to skim the content and read the points that interest them.

Use bullets and/or numbers to highlight lists.

  • Bullets are a great way to format lists.
  • Really they are.
  • People like bullet points.

Use the heading tag to separate subsections of your article.

Heading 3 is the best for titling subsections.

Anything bigger than Heading 3 is a little too big.

Heading 6 is too small.
