Donate Expired Coupons to Military Families Overseas

August 29, 2009 · 16 comments

Note: Currently there is a waiting list for those who want to DONATE coupons. If you would like to be put on the waiting list fill out the form below. You will not hear from me until I have a military family available for you.

Thank you for your interest in the Coupons for Troops program. Please read the details below and fill out the contact form if you are interesting in sending or receiving coupons.

If you are stationed overseas and would like to receive expired coupons please complete the form below and remember to include your military mailing address. You information will be shared with one to three families who will start sending you their expired coupons.

Thank you so much for your interest in the Coupons for Troops program. The program is very simple. I assign you an overseas family, and you mail your expired coupons to this family. It is up to you whether you mail them once a week, once a month or quarterly, whatever works for you.

There are a few “rules.” Coupons must be less than 3 months expired to allow the military time to use them. You can mail any type of grocery coupon including internet printed coupons. The commissary sells items like pet food, diapers, baby food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, paper products, batteries, light bulbs as well as groceries so coupons for all the previously mentioned items are appreciated. The family you are assigned may not be able to use every single coupon you send, but many families pass on the coupons they cannot use to other families on base.

Mailing coupons to an overseas military base costs exactly the same amount as mailing a package inside the US. If you are sending a package (as opposed to an envelope) you will have to fill out a customs form.

Military families sincerely appreciate your coupons, I have received numerous emails from families who have saved hundreds of dollars with the Coupons for Troops program.

Thank you for supporting the troops with coupons.

If you would like to receive or donate coupons please fill out the form below and please put Coupons for Troops in the subject field.

What a great program! I hope a lot of people sign up. I didn’t know things in commissaries overseas cost so much more.

Hope you can get a lot of people signed up to do this.

Thanks so much for handling this program!

I have a speaking engagement with a local women’s club next week, and I will be including this program in my presentation.

They may want to pursue this program as a pet project. I’ll contact you to get more information.

Hi, I am wondering if you can send coupons that aren’t expired?

TheHappyHousewife Reply:

Yes, you can send unexpired coupons as well.

I’m not one to waste. Won’t the excess coupons be wasted if no one can use them? How is it they can use expired coupons, and in the USA, we can’t? Thanks.

TheHappyHousewife Reply:

Excess coupons are usually left at the commissary or given to other families on base. Military commissaries overseas have accepted expired coupons for years. I am not sure why they have the policy, but they do.
As far as waste, expired Q’s that are thrown away here in the states cannot benefit anyone. If you send them overseas they have the potential to help a military family.

We were stationed in Korea and it was awesome when we got the expired coupons. They are good for 6 months past expiration at commissaries. I don’t know what program was used, but the coupons were mailed directly to the commissary and we could dig through them. It really helped because we didn’t get american newspapers so we didn’t get coupons. We saved a ton of money with the coupons. It is really appreciated, and thanks to all who participate!

I have lots of coupons right now that have expired that I would like to send to a family in need. Please send me an address of a family or two that I can help. I also have a sister-in-law who would like to participate. I can take an address or two for her as well. How soon can you send out this info? Thank you!
