We spent the last seven days enjoying beautiful sunny weather in Texas with my sister-in-law and her family. This morning, we loaded the car at 4am and headed back to Florida where we are celebrating a very special event this weekend.
After driving for 13 hours we stopped at a hotel for the night. The kids were tired, I was tired, my mother-in-law was tired and we were all starving. Most of our snack stores were depleted and I needed to find food for dinner. When we are looking for a quick bite, my kids usually choose the not so healthy meal of nuggets and fries and I try not to count how many days in a row it has been since they have eaten anything green.
I was happy to see a Subway very close to the hotel. Subway is one of the few places that offer what I consider healthy choices for my kids. My daughter was able to get a ham and cheese sandwich, apple slices, and milk. Instead of a cheap toy that will break five minutes into the car ride, they now have these awesome re-usable totes from National Geographic. My four year old loves her new “purse.” (excuse the blurry hotel corridor picture, but at least it is real life
)
Subway has also launched a website with National Geographic that has games for kids, coloring pages, and fun activities. This is a great distraction for the kids if you are sitting in a hotel room and it is raining outside so you can’t swim.
(Not that I have any experience with that)
You can learn more about Subway’s reusable meal bags on their website and follow them on Twitter at @SubwayFreshBuzz. When your kids reuse their bags at Subway they get a sticker and can track their adventures on a travel map. How’s that for teaching them to recycle at a young age?
The folks at Subway have generously donated two $25 Subway gift cards plus reusable National Geographic totes for my readers.

i like that subway has so many choices and their bread is always fresh!
My kids enjoy eating there – never heard a complaint [yet]! – and like you I love the healthy options! I don’t feel guilty after eating there.
I love that I don’t feel guilty about getting a quick meal for the family. The prices are great, and it’s so much healthier for my family. It also works with my diet.
My family LOOOOOVES Subway! The prices are a little higher here in Alaska but I would rather pay the prices and know that my kids are getting a better meal than nuggets and fries. My children love the bags that Subway gives out. When we are checking out they try to guess what kind of bag it is going to be. I did not know about bringing it back; I will have to do that next time! Enjoy your trip!
Subway is so great for kids! I work for a state legislature and while 9 months of the year I get a lot of time off, 3 months of the year are quite hectic…12-14 hour days. I never feel guilty when I pick up a Subway kids meal. My 6 year old likes ham with mayo, pickles, and lettuce, yogurt and apple juice. She calls it her “usual”! With the $5 footlongs, our whole family can eat for about $20 or less, and we don’t feel grease-laden afterwards!
I LOVE these reusable bags! My 6 year old uses them for everything – from a dress-up purse to a bag to carry her DS to daycare. I use them as a “quick trip” diaper bag for our 10 month old – they’re great for a couple of diapers and a travel container of wipes and a toy or two. We also use them for lunch bags. It never occurred to me to take them back and reuse them at Subway!
I love several things about subway.
1) I can get a decent serving of veggies.
2) Like you, my son never complains, and can get a reasonably healthy meal.
3) The restaurants are generally clean.
4) There are seemingly endless combinations of sandwiches, so it really never gets old and there is something for everyone.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Also, your daughter is holding the “Hope Diamond” bag, this inspired a DC trip back in the spring to see the real thing!
What I really like about Subway is their Italian BMT with oil, salt and pepper, and banana peppers. YUM!!!
I love that you can take any sub and make into a salad. We have a family member that has a wheat allergy so they can very easily accomidate her and her dietary needs without fuss or hassel.
Thank You so much!
I like Subway because it’s the only fast food restaurant that offers healthy choices for kids and adults. The biggest bonus is I know what is in the food and I don’t have to guess the ingredients… I know my kids are eating healthy and that’s piece of mind enough for me.
As a dedicated home made bread maker, I admit I love Subway’s fresh breads!
Wow, you were right in my backyard!
I love their fresh bread (and several different kinds of it) and the salad bar type way of putting the sandwiches together, plus they TOAST them! Mmmm….My kids’ favorite: Meatball sub.
My husband and I are trying to lose weight and get healthy again, and Subway is our go-to fast food place when we need something quick. I LOVE it:)
I like the Turkey sub at Subway. My husband likes the not- as- healthy meatball sub.
When I eat at Subway, I feel like I am getting a healthier option than eating fried foods.
i love that you can get apples as a side. And the way the bread smells. oh my gosh, so good.
I like subway because it is a healthy alternative to fast food and is inexpensive.
I love that I can get a veggie sub, my son can get a ham and cheese with apple slices, and my husband can get whatever delicious and higher-calorie delight his skinny self desires. It’s wonderful, a healthier option, and so much more reasonably priced than quiznos, etc. Thanks for the opportunity to win some good free stuff! Wahoo!
I love being able to have healthier choices for my kids when we eat out. They love the tuna and just pile on the veggies — I think that’ s mainly because they get to tell the worker what to put on it.
I love that it’s tasty and healthy…and everyone can get what they like without me fixing 5 different meals!
I won’t lie to ya….I love their white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.
I love Subway because you know what you are going to get – a fresh, quick alternative to hamburger and fries that is a more and more reasonable cost!
I love that everyone can choose their own toppings an yet its still, healthy for all our family! Also nice to have healthy side choices as well! Oh and the $5 footlongs-what a great deal!
I like that I can get a healthy meal that I can eat one-handed since Baby Josey always wants to be held while I’m eating!
I love that you can toast the subs.
I love the sandwiches, that they are in the play area at the mall, that they have jalapenos and I can have them on the side because my kids are not ready for jalapenos yet!
I like that they are one of two places to grab a meal to go in our podunk town.
I also really dig the meatball sandwiches.
Thanks for the information. I will be taking my little one and her friends to Subway tomorrow for lunch.
Wow. What do I like about Subway? umm… Fresh. (Bread, veggies…) plus it’s quick. $5.00 footlongs. and it’s right around the corner. What’s not to like?
YUM!
Like you, I love that Subway has so many healthy options. I actually feel good about eating there…and it tastes good too!
I like their Sub of the Day deal.
Subway is a great place for a quick healthy meal. You get your sndwich the way you want it. So many healthy choices and everything is so fresh and delicious. Yeah Subway!
Everyone in my family loves Subway and I like that $5 buys a footlong that feeds 2-3. $15 isn’t too bad for a “fast” food meal for 6.
I love that they have several dairy free options. I know when ever we are on a road trip we can always find a Subway nearby and we can get something to eat that our youngest (15 months) & I can eat without causing him to have an allergic reaction.
I love that at Subway everyone in my fam can pick whatever they like. We all have our faves…and they are all entirely different!
I love that I can take 5 boys in and they can each find something they like – AND I don’t feel like they are eating junk.
I love that subway gives my hubby an alternative to fried foods when I can’t make his lunch. He has to be careful with his weight. Plus, their Subway Melt is scrumptious.
The food is delicious and there is something for everyone!
I love their choice – even though I usually get the same thing, I love the fact that I can line up & dream of the different subs I could get if I was adventurous – & of course their bread is just delicious!
I like that Subway offers so many options to customize your sandwich to your own tastes and diet.
We love subway! Especially all the different options they offer.
My kids love subway – it’s probably the only fast food chain where they will actually eat vegetables !
I love the choices of veggies.
We have subway once a week! I consider it one of our best meals (not a cooker here…) Love their bread and selection of veggies (put on everything but hot peppers please) Plus there is no dishes!
Since we are a baseball family it is super dooper easy to pick them up and eat them at the game. Best part of all is that they are so close to our house. Just wish they’d offer the $5 subs again….sob
I like Subway because they now have SPINACH as a topping option for a sandwich! Yummy, healthy, dark green… delish.
I like the $5 foot longs & the fact that they offer so many healthy options.
I love that Subway is affordable and healthy!
I love that subway is a great alternative to typical “fast food” I don’t feel guilty the next day.
We love Subway because… it is a healthy and quick lunch and the fact that pretty much all there sandwiches are $5 helps. You can’t get a more frugal lunch that is healthy for less then that!
Thank you for a chance to win. Going on vac in a few weeks and would love to win this
Blessings-
Rachelle
We love Subway for the healthy choices even for children.
