Cute, but not really current, written in 1832.
this book will always be free and can be found all over the web legally. It is no longer under copyright (like all books published before 1923, in the US), so anyone can make a copy and distribute it however they want. Most copies that you’ll find are actually just pulled from gutenberg.org, where books outside of copyright are digitized by volunteers, and made available to the public. I’ve read this book, and enjoy it, but it’s not something that most modern people would find useful. (the medicinal sections are frightening… I’m certain that laudanum (a mixture of liquor and opium) is an effective pain-killer, but there are good reasons it’s no longer used as such (mainly the fact that it’s highly addictive and kills the brain)…
It’s fascinating if you’re interested in history and how people lived in the past, though.
