Now I admit, I’m a Canon girl, but this new online photo storage from Nikon has got my attention. Nikon is offering a free online storage program called My Picturetown. You get 2 GB of storage for free every month. You can upgrade for a monthly fee, which starts at $2.99 for 20 GB.
You can store photos and videos on this site as well as share them with friends, create albums, organize them and much more.
2 GB of storage will store approximately 340 high resolution photos a month. Free features include:
- Save images in their original state without altering them such as reducing the size when uploading.
- Use “my Picturetown Uploader” – an original uploader tool independently operated* by Adobe AIR* Runtime on the desktop.
- Create new albums and insert tags when uploading files. Upload additional images to existing albums.
- Directly upload from the home page after logging-in.
- Download images in their original size or select the size yourself.
- Set ratings (Favorites) and tags for images (possible to select and set multiple images).
- Set location info on maps using the drag tool*, and set landmark info (possible to select and set multiple images).
- Create and browse “PhotoMovie” – a combination of photos, music and messages.
- Share “PhotoMovie” with selected e-mail addresses.
- Share images by sending a shared album URL to selected e-mail addresses.
- Shared album images can be sent in a variety of sizes* starting with the original size.
- 18 skin types are available to choose from when sending shared albums. It is also possible to set the shared album so that it will be initially opened in Map View by the recipient.
- Shared albums can be played back as a slideshow. Switching between Map Views is also possible (only for images with location info).
- Post images to other websites, e.g. transfer your images to Facebook.
- Create links to blogs with automatically generated HTML code and URLs that enable my Photos images to be posted on blogs and websites.
To sign up for the free account you are only required to enter your email address, no other personal information.

Thanks for the information.
I’m in the market for a new camera and am having a tough time choosing between a Canon and a Nikon. Can you tell me what you love about your Canon?
oh wow, this sounds great! I’ve been thinking I need to do something about my photos, a backup or something- this sounds really wonderful!
