Craft Chaos

As a homeschooler we have lots of craft supplies. It doesn’t help that I am addicted to all things crafty and fun. The flip side of this is that I can’t stand clutter or “junk drawers.” These two worlds collide in our craft cupboard.

Craft Chaos

The main problem with the cupboard is that items are not easily accessible, and definitely disorganized.

I started by taking everything out of the cupboard.

Then I sorted and organized all the bins and miscellaneous items, with the help of the kids.

Craft Chaos

Some of the jobs kids can do are sorting crayons and markers (throwing out broken or dried up ones), testing ink pads, finding homes for lost puzzle pieces, sorting crafts, and testing glue.

After everything was sorted, I put it all back into the cupboard using the “make sure the baby can’t reach it method.” Things like the paper cutter and markers are up high so if the cabinet is left open our toddler can’t do as much damage. I also made the top shelf “preschool activities,” so when I am working with our little ones, I can just grab something off the top shelf, I don’t have to hunt around for it.

Craft Chaos

Usually I hesitate at the words “mommy can I make….?” because I dread looking for the supplies in our cabinet. Hopefully this tackle will help me to be more flexible and fun with the kids and their crafting.

  1. Looks great, can you come do mine???

  2. It looks like you need a diff. shelving system. I have a closet downstairs in dd bedroom for our h/s stuff but we do school up stairs. This is getting on my nerves a bit too. I can hardly wait til school is over w/for awhile.

  3. Right now all of our craft supplies are in the attic, although when we had them in a cabinet, they looked a lot like your before picture (only worse!)

I do have a puzzle cabinet that holds literally dozens of puzzles. Unfortunately, it’s in one of my kitchen cabinets, and it’s an absolute mess, too! I’m thinking about blogging about it to motivate me to clean it up like you did your craft cabinet.

  4. Ah, looks so nice. Doesn’t it feel good? My schoolroom closet needs some SERIOUS attention…but I think I’ll just wait for the school year to end. (oh wait, is that procrastinating?!)

  5. Oooh, nice tackle. I love how you involved the kids :)

  6. Very nice! I bet it feels better having it all organized! I know what you mean by dreading craft time, it’s something we love to do but all of our stuff is crammed into one container! I think I’ll have to dedicate an entire cabinet like you have.

    Thanks for sharing!
