I just made chocolate cake and chocolate frosting for a dinner party. I have left over frosting that I wanted to freeze. Both cake and frosting turned out amazing got the recipe off the hersey cocoa powder container. Really good and so easy if you can make cake from a box you can do this. I was surprized how easy it was. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info. I made a huge amount of mascarpone frosting w/fresh lemon zest (Williams Sonoma recipe) to be sure I had enough for a big birthday cake project. Sooo yummy, and sooo expensive to make, and there's no way I can use up the extra while we're still trying to make our way through the leftover birthday cake! (Not to mention post-Halloween sugar overload.) So, freezer it is. Hopefully the mascarpone won't have some surprise properties when frozen and thawed... If anyone has feedback on that please let me know.

I just today made too much frosting, (the same recipe stated in your post) and stuck it in the freezer, then thought I'd better check and see if I can freeze it. Typed it in the search engine and your site came up. wow talk about lucky. thank you for posting this. Now I know I'm safe. Thanks

We love to freeze left over frosting on graham crackers, makes a nice snack. Also, I use the same ingredients to make frosting but sometimes use imitation maple flavoring and then use the icing on top of a spice cake, it's delicious.
