Sounds like there are a lot of variations of this type of dish. I have two similar recipes that everyone loves except they use french vanilla pudding mixed with the whipped topping and layer it with Oreo or Graham Crackers. I think there end up being three layers when I make those, but it has been awhile since I've made them. Thanks for sharing this one! I made it this past week since my husband needed something for a party at work...one small dish for the family, one large dish for the office, a lot fewer calories for the pregnant momma. :D

The first time I saw this recipe, it had Heath in it which was also very good. I agree, you could probably use many different types of cookies and candy and have a great (albeit very unhealthy) dessert.

I've found it helpful to make things like this to take when I need a snack for something...I usually keep a small portion aside and make a mini for whoever happens to be staying home, and then, I use the bulk of it for taking. Things like this go over well with most crowds so you usually don't have to worry too much about leftovers ;)

Here's my version which actually uses cheesecake pudding and instant coffee for added flavor.

Oreo Brownie Trifle

1 package brownie mix (13-inch x 9-inch pan size), plus ingredients to make
cake like brownies
1 cup cold milk
¼ cup instant coffee granules
2 packages (3.4 ounces) instant cheesecake pudding mix
2 containers (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
20 Oreo cookies, coarsely chopped

Prepare and bake brownies according to package directions for cake-like brownies, using a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Cool completely on a wire rack. In a large mixing bowl, beat the milk and instant coffee granules; stir until dissolved. Add pudding mix and 1 and ¼ or ½ container of whipped topping. Whisk until smooth. Fold chopped cookies into the pudding mix. Cut the brownies into 1-in. cubes; place half in a 3-qt. glass trifle bowl. Cover with half of the pudding mixture. Repeat layers. Top with extra whipped topping and sprinkle with chopped Oreos. Refrigerate.
