Cake Decorating DVD ~ Fabulous Five Days of Giveaways

snow 2008 105 Cake Decorating DVD ~ Fabulous Five Days of Giveaways

A while ago I was given the Basic Cake Decorating Video by Teaching Good Things. I love this video. One thing that I have found over the past few years is that it is usually cheaper to teach yourself a skill than to pay someone to do it for you.

For many years I ordered all my children’s cakes at the grocery store. I didn’t think I had the skills to make a good enough cake on my own. Over time, and after watching a few good friends decorate birthday cakes I realized this was something I could do with a little practice. This year I got serious about my cake decorating and attempted  castle, Barbie, and Star Wars cakes. I thought about taking a class, but I didn’t have the time.

This Cake Decorating DVD is a decorating class in your own home. Kathy takes you through every step of the cake decorating process and includes many helpful tips along the way. One thing I really loved about the video is that she explains the numerous frosting tips, what designs they make, and how to use one tip to make a variety of designs. She makes it look so easy!

After watching the video I was ready to bake a cake and start practicing. Although Kathy recommends practicing using tips on parchment paper, which is probably a better idea.

The Teaching Good Things website sells several “how to” videos and books, including crochet, bread baking and more. I encourage you to visit the site and see what they have to offer.

Kathy was kind enough to offer a Cake Decorating Video for one of my readers. You definitely want to enter this contest as the savings potential is incredible. I know that I can bake and frost a cake for about five dollars, the cheapest cakes at Costco are around $16. So I am saving $10 each birthday! I am not even going to try and figure out what that would be for nine people and all our birthdays over the years, but I am sure it is a lot of money! Plus cake decorating is a fun activity to do with your kids. My nine year old helped with his Star Wars cake a few months ago and he is still telling me how much he liked it!

To enter the contest leave me a comment. For additional entries tweet, post to Facebook or blog about the contest. Please leave additional comments for each entry. Contest ends Monday October 12.

Oh wow! I have wanted to take a class for a few years now. An at home video would be AWESOME!!!!!! What a great idea, especially for those of us with little ones and a hubby that travels. Makes it pretty hard to commit to a class that meets each week, etc. But at home…I can do that one!

My youngest turned 4 years old in August and literally EVERY day asks for another birthday cake. After discovering she has allergies we no longer can follow our routine of picking one up at the store…thus this miracle of finding about this giveaway steps in! :)

You have no idea how much this would help us out. My kids do tolerate how my cakes turn out because well..it’s cake and it’s sweet and was made with LOVE, so lets face it…you can’t screw that up too much in a childs eyes…THANK GOODNESS! But I would love to learn how to make it a bit more for company’s sake! heheheee! :)

I absolutely love your blog. Thank you for the opportunity to make some adorable looking cakes! :)

Oh wow, do I ever need this! My kids’ birthday cakes always look very, um, unprofessional. (They taste great, if I do say so myself – but it’s become a running joke that my cakes are NOT attractive!)
Would love to win this. Thanks for the opportunity!

I am a homeschooling mom of three girls. I have taken cake decorating before, but I am not very good at it and I would love the video to help me. I am trying to teach my girls to cook and I think it would be neat to teach them cake decorating. I know the video would be a great teaching tool.

I am late reading your blog and was just catching up through my RSS downloads & saw this one. I had to laught. I just had my daughter’s 6 year old birthday this week. We have always had two cakes for her birthday- one for a family party & one for her friends’ party. I wasn’t feeling well this year on the day of the family party and figured I would just buy a cake on the way to the party. Ugh! Yeah, $16 for a cake. Even if I just buy the frosting & cake mix and bake it myself, they only cost $3 – less if I have coupons. The next day, I made her friends’ party cupcakes – even with the extra decorations (little candies) I bought – it was less than $5.
Well, I learned my lesson again. :) I should have read your blog before this weekend. Thanks!
