Avoid Meat Leakage in the Fridge

One of my least favorite jobs is cleaning up a spill in the fridge! It seems like I always notice the spill after it has infiltrated every corner and section of my fridge! One way to minimize the leaking of meat juice while the meat is thawing is to set it upside down on a plate. Since the seam is facing up, you are less likely to have leaking. Setting it on a plate catches any leaks you might have.

Sorry for the gross meat photo, but I wanted to give a visual.

I do put my thawing meat in a tupperware bowl but I never thought to do it upside down. That’s a good tip. Thanks!

I put mine in a 9X13 pan with a cooling rack on top. That gives me another flat surface to stack leftovers on or more thawing meat. Takes up less room in the fridge, no spill overs, and the thawing meat isn’t able to touch anything or anybody else. (Thanks to my Nana for that tip!)

I always thaw my meat on the bottom shelf, on a plate, but never thought to turn it upside down. Thanks! =)

Great tip. One of my husband’s pet peeves is when I forget to put a plate under the meat while thawing. I will try this with the chicken I am thawing.
