Bargain Meal of the Week
For great meals for less you can purchase at your local store visit $5 Dinner’s new feature, Bargain Meal of the Week. Bloggers around the country create a bargain meal based on their local store sales.

If you shop at the commissary you probably know their prices change every two weeks. Not only do sales run on a two week basis, but many of their everyday low prices change as well. Each Monday I will be posting a bargain meal, created from current commissary deals.

Chicken legs, rice, green beans, and salad

  • Chicken legs @ $0.89 a lb (2 lbs)
  • Mahatma yellow rice $0.69
  • Delmonte organic green beans $0.99 or you can purchase Pic Sweet frozen peas for $0.89 a bag
  • Salad $1.59

My favorite ways to prepare chicken legs are

Total cost for 4 to 5 adults $5.05

The unfried chicken sounds so good. I’ve made something similar with boneless skinless breasts but will have to try it with the legs. Thanks for sharing all of your great recipes.

The chicken legs sound scrumptious! :D I got a couple packs of chicken on the bone the other day for a great price at the commissary. :D

What kind of chicken was under a dollar a pound? The only meat I’ve had luck finding under $1 was turkey last november. it was 49 cents/lb so I got 2 15#ers.

I tried the Unfried Chicken Legs, and they were incredible! My 3-year old son and my husband both LOVED them. I’m a military spouse, and do pretty much all of my grocery shopping at the commisary. The bargain meal ideas from there have been great. Thank you!
