Closet Clean-up

I have been talking about tackling my closet for weeks. For some reason, it just has not been a priority for me, so it has stayed a mess. Today, when I about broke my neck trying to get a shirt to wear I decided enough is enough. I share a closet with my husband, so I was only able to work on my section. I would love to organize his section, but we have different organizing styles. I use the fold and hang method and he uses the “organize by entropy” method. (those are his words not mine)

To the left is my husband’s side, straight ahead is my side, and behind the door is the black hole.

I took everything out from my side and the black hole and piled it high on my bed. Then I sorted it into several categories; Goodwill, winter, hand-me-down, special occasion and summer.

I ended up with two bags for Goodwill. The hand-me-downs went straight into my daughter’s closet. I put the winter and special occasion clothes in the section formerly known as the black hole. The summer stuff is hanging right in front, where I can see and access it easily.

I am so happy now the my clothes are organized. I found some things I had been looking for and passed on things that didn’t fit or that I haven’t worn in years. Now, when I think I need to shop for clothes checking my closet will be the first step. I can make a list of types and colors I need before I head to the store, thereby saving me time and money. My mornings will be smoother as well, since I won’t be hunting down lost shirts or missing shoes.

  10. That’s a great tackle. It frees up so much space and makes it easier to get ready. I was so excited when I cleaned out my closet and felt like I actually had something to wear again even after getting rid of so much stuff!

  11. Great job - I would love to have that kind of closet space.

  12. Get rid of the wire hangers! You can get the plastic ones at garage sales. Also try getting some skirt hangers, you know the ones with the littles grippy things. You can hang skirts and pants (by the waist) on them.
My side of the closet looks like your husbands. My husbands look like it is in a magazine. Everything is color coded, shirts, pants, jackets, suits all in their special place… shoes even!! Sometimes I like to go visit his side of the closet.

  13. Can I rent your services?!
