For great meals for less you can purchase at your local store visit $5 Dinner’s new feature, Bargain Meal of the Week. Bloggers around the country create a bargain meal based on their local store sales.
If you shop at the commissary you probably know their prices change every two weeks. Not only do sales run on a two week basis, but many of their everyday low prices change as well. Each Monday I will be posting a bargain meal, created from current commissary deals.
Commissaries.com is a website that lists every item on sale at your local commissary. You have to be eligible to shop at the commissary and log in with your last name, social security number and birth date to view the sales. The best part of this site is that you can view your local manager specials which vary from store to store.
Military Shoppers is a site which publishes the commissary sale fliers every two weeks. It is a great way to get a quick look at the weekly specials.

Tuna Noodle Casserole
Ingredients
- 2 cans tuna $0.70 can
- 1 can cream celery soup $1
- 8 oz frozen peas $0.45
- (optional) shredded carrots, zucchini, or other veggies $0.50
- 1 bag egg noodles $1
- garlic powder, minced onion, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste $0.30
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese $0.75
Boil egg noodles according to directions. While noodles are boiling drain tuna and mix together tun, soup, peas, veggies, and seasonings. Drain the noodles and mix in to the tuna mixture. Spread in a 9 x 13 pan (which has been sprayed with non-stick spray). Bake covered for 25 minutes at 350 degrees. The last five minutes remove the cover and top with shredded cheese (we prefer cheddar).
This meals serves 6 to 8 adults.
Total cost $5.40
You can almost always buy tuna for about $0.70 a can. Also there was a coupon for egg noodles in the paper a few weeks back, I think it was $0.50 off, but I can’t remember because I already used it!

Hello! I hope your crazy week is going well. I am enjoying your kitchen feature on happy to be home. I have a couple questions for you for your next installment of a day in the life, no rush of course but I am just curious…
1. How do you handle children who fight all the time? How do you encourage them to not fight and to get along?
2. What is your response to people when they find out that you homeschool and they tell you that your children should be in public school so that they can be around bad influences in order to learn how to choose the right decision. Basically, they need to be able to learn how to say no to bad things, etc. I’ve been getting this a lot lately from friends and family and it’s bugging me.
Thank you for opening up your life and sharing your experiences and tips with me. I truly appreciate you!
Angela
