13 Things You Can Do To Support Our Troops

This post is dedicated to some very good friends of ours who are currently serving our country overseas. Brian and Jesse- we love you guys and miss you. We pray for your safe and speedy return.

My Thursday Thirteen 3rd Edition -

13 Things You Can Do to Support Our Troops.

1. Put one of those yellow ribbons on your car or tie a yellow ribbon around a tree in your front yard.

2. Invite a Single Service Member over to your house for dinner. People are usually pretty good about doing this around the holidays, but they would enjoy a home cooked meal any time of the year.

3. If you know someone who is deployed send them a letter, or a care package. Make sure you check with someone who knows them well to see what they really need.

4. Tell them that you appreciate their service to our country. You might be surprised how little they hear this.

5. If you own or manage a store, give a military discount. Even 10% is appreciated.

6. For families whose loved one is deployed… invite them for dinner, or bring them a meal.

7. Offer to babysit….military families often spend months apart. Mom and Dad would love to have some time alone together.

8. Call…. check up on the families whose loved one is deployed. A lot of times they would love someone to talk to. Don’t think it is a bad time… if it is they just won’t answer the phone.

9. Be a friend… military life can be hard on everyone. There are frequent moves, separations, and other trials. Friends can make all the difference to a military family.

10. Attend a troop homecoming

11. Offer to babysit for the spouse who is on the homefront during the deployment, I’m sure they could use some quiet moments to themselves.

12. Help the family out by offering to run an errand; return library books, videos, run to the post office, pick up milk, especially if you’re already going there.

13. Pray- for the troops that are abroad, the ones here at home, and the families that support them.

  1. what a nice tt!!
    have a great night!

  2. That’s one fantastic and THOUGHTFUL list!! xoxox

  3. This is a great TT. I often want to do something but am not sure what would really help. There’s so much cheerleading and so little real help. We’ve done a number of your suggestions - plus helped out a dad who lost his son.

    Happy TT!

My TT is Food for thought.

  4. What a great list! If we all did at least one that would be awesome.

  5. THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I am a Navy wife, and so often people say they want to be supportive, but they don’t seem to have a clue HOW….thank you for showing people how to be supportive of military members and their families!

    Happy T-13!

  6. #14 vote a sensible president into office to bring the troops home. Happy TT.

  7. Excellent suggestions!

  8. This is a great list! Thanks for sharing and encouraging pepole to support our troops!

  9. That is a great one. As the girlfriend of a career Navy man, I totally agree with you!

    Happy TT!

  10. Those are some really great things to do. It is sad that when the troops first left, everyone was doing so much, but after a few years it seems like much of America has forgotten. You helped me remember too.

    Thanks for visiting my TT!

  11. I agree with Pussreboots. Best thing we can do for our troops is bring them home. This is why I have never understood how being anti-war is not supporting the troops. If I didn’t support and care about them I wouldn’t care as much about getting them home from this pointless killing.

  12. What a fantastic list. Great!!

  13. That was a very nice post!

  14. Great list, and as the mom of a military son, even when they are not deployed, but just stationed far from home, any of those gestures are appreciated. Thanks for visiting Miller Manor this week!
